I am getting ready to purchase an IMCO shortie for my Bravo 1 outdrive on my 1997 18' 350 MAG MPI Gen+. My questions for those in the know is do I go with a 1" shortie or a 2". If I go woth the 2" and I need it to be longer, I can add a 1" spacer. I do use the boat for skiing and kneeboarding so getting on plane is important. I have found that I can get the boat on plane very quickly by putting my victory tabs down before hitting the gas. It keeps the bow level. Are there any members out there that have put a IMCO shortie on an 18'?
I also will have a Bravo 1 lower unit for sale with about 100 hours of use if anyone is interested. I can purchase the new IMCO for $3,020.49 plus shipping.

Thanks,

Don Tamm

I'd go with the 2", satin finish, and I believe there are 1/2" spacers available, not just one inch. I have seen some on the 18's here so it won't be long till you find out. :) If a 1" Shortie is still not enough you are screwed to the turn of $3K, but you can work back from 2".

an 18 classic works really well with an alpha SS which is 3 inches shorter than a standard alpha / bravo... go 2 inch shortie...

It will run great with a 2" shortie, but you may not be able to pull a skier up out of the water. My 18 had a 2" shortie on it and it would slip comming up on plane.
They do make all sizes of spacers from 1/2" up to 2" in 1/2"
increments.

Thanks for the input, based on some advice (SE and Rootsy) I am going to go with the 2" shortie.
