Have a 18 footer with a 350 chevy, 400 horsepower and an alpha. Currently have a 21 Cleaver. What is the best prop for optimum performance - Turbo, Laser, Mirage Plus, Cleaver, etc.
Assuming you have an 18 CLASSIC....then for top speed, a Mirage Plus. If you have a 1:50 gear ratio then a 25" is a good place to start.

HP600SC is right. Some will argue that the Turbo is faster or more stable. It's a close call. both are good props. If you don't mind losing 2-3MPH on the top end, a Hydromotive Intimidator Quad IV is the best prop handling wise. Way better than the Mirage + or Turbo, but slower. I have one of each, but the Mirage+ hasn't been on the boat since I got the Hydro. ;)

OK, OK, you got me. I had to put the "speed" prop on for the shootout. :biggrin.: The Mirage has been collecting dust pretty much all THIS season.
What are you bitchin' about Smoothie? I never did catch you even with the M+... :eek!: :eek!:

Best bet would to find a prop shop nearby, that will loan you a few for a test day. They should apply your deposit toward the prop that you purchase. I just found a place that will do this for me, 1/8 of a mile from where i keep my boat. I never even knew the shop was there.
BTW, Either start saving for another Alpha, or baby that one like a fine woman. 400 is a lot for an alpha.
Test, test and re test. There is no way to answer this unless you try all of them on the same day with the same water and weather conditions. Set up a spread sheet with speed and your rpm's at 1000 rpm intervals. Don't forget to paly with trim, every prop is differen't.

I have a 18' Classic w/ a 350/300 (dyno'd) Alpha SS, I have tryed more prop's than I care to discuss (special thanks to Jerry at Airmarine in Chicago), Spinnilli Brothers built me a cleaver that was just awsume on top end compared to the rest. Just my 2 cents.

I know there out east NY or NJ. I'll look for there phone number. Great to deal with, I did not have to send the prop back for any tweaking, though they advised if I was not happy they would work with me to make it right. Unfortunity I don't remember who I talked to. I think I found there phone number in Hot Boat Magazine.
