Affiliated with Wellcraft other than that,,unsure. Did see two 20 ft's in the Poker Run this past weekend held in Sidney. One blew a wrist pin and had to limp home. Ran strong in 2'to 3' ftr's but I still one the fastest single screw trophy:p

Well lets see .. what I know, or think I know ..

Originally designed by Californian Larry Smith as a counterattack on Cigarettes. Made great inroads in racing thanks to the late great Betty Cook. Production rights bought by Wellcraft after they had tremendous success with the Nova line they brought from Brownie !.. I think the Nova line saved Wellcraft from an early demise ..
After A few episodes of Miami Vice sales went through the roof and everyone became a 'Cigarette boat' expert overnight  (Or was I the only one who noticed that back in the mid 80's ?)
I think that Larry might still make the real McCoy out west .
Now watch Brownie (who we have'nt heard from for a while) come and set us straight !

My first NEW boat was a Scarab, it was a 22 footer with a 454. Fast boat, but very unstable in anything over 3-4 foot waves. I met a lot of ladies on that boat, ooh the menories !

There is a rumor that Larry Smith may start building them again since Wellcraft abandoned the name.

I had 94 Scarab 22 w/454, fun boat and a great lake boat, also had a 99 Scarab 23SCS w502efi. It was a fast boat with lots of power, because of the left hand steering and the controls in between the seats it was short on room. I never had any problems with either boat.

How come in Most of Cuda's photo's, the chicks are naked?????

THE 22 Scarab is a fast boat, but it doesnt have a very deep Vee, 21* or 22*, I was thinking of picking one up, but abandoned the idea for a Donzi, or Pantera:biggrin:

I think it's a 21 degree. It is best on flat water. I saw my buddy's standing straight up more than once coming across Tampa Bay. One time it was so rough, he crossed about 30 yards in front of me on my fishboat, and he never even saw me.

Around 1973, Larry Smith sent a good friend to learn all our construction secrets at Cary Marine. I was GM, Pedro Medina "Perucho", original Cigarette glass guy was glass man. The envoy, Dick Clark, had been promised a position at the new company "Scarab". Larry had gotten the use of the name from Lance Reventlow's survivors. Anyway, we told Dick EVERYTHING. Larry modified a 27' Magnum (I think) and used our technology to build the early Scarabs. Dick was on the street (probably couldn't be trusted). Larry soon got hooked up with the high-tech left coasters and made some of the early Kevlar and carbon stuff. I hooked him up with Dick Genth of Wellcraft, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Poodle, I was post-Hoppy. This episode came under the Frogs. PS. What kind of 150 do you have for sale? I am looking for two motors for my houseboat.
