Just curious as to what you guys put in your boats. I want to keep some extra engine oil around and am looking for suggestions. My local Boat US only carries Quicksilver and was wondering if I should buy the Merc fluid online. Also, what weight should I use. I am more of a jeep guy and recently switched to all Mobil 1 syn fluid 0w-40 and oil filters in my to rigs. Its an '00 350 MAG MPI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey JeepFan, I use Merc 25-40 in the boat but plan on changing to Amzoil over the winter. I get 24k miles between oil changes in my cars and better milage.
Hope this helps,
Wes

SYNTHETIC! You can argue brands but you cannot argue the better performance and engine life, that goes for transmission or drive line item. I had the fleet manager for Coca Cola as a client, he said they did a 100% switch to Mobil 1 products. Though far more costly than standard lubes the break rate was greatly reduced and economy went up, it proved to be cheaper in the long run. I have run several of my land irons over 200k on Mobile 1, they ran cooler and mileage went up about 2 miles per gallon. High HP Porsche and Corvette come new from the factory with synthetic.

40 wgt - non-detergent. Florida ishot and the engine works hard. Synthetic is good, too. My engine doesn't complaint abot either............

hmmm here i go thinkin outside that box again...

we've all discussed this 23423423423423423423 times and get no where.. so here is what i think i am gonna do..

just gonna go to the store and buy 1 qt of each oil and take it home.. put it in the blender and have at it...

this should pretty much conclude the oil discussion...

i'll just call it RAGU.. cause ya know.. it's in there ;)

J - don't try this at home kids :umbrella:

Rootsy, don't forget the ice and margarita mix...Also use the SYN last, your blender will run better.

FWIW, I had a 3 1/2 hour meeting/discussion with one of our large clients about this just yesterday.... ya see, they run 620 municipal bus's.... BIG player as you can well imagine. They have a SEVERE sludging problem on the Series 50 and M11 Cummins, and I mean severe..... The head stupervisor had NO clue what brand of oil they bought in bulk, he only knew it was 15W40... oh boy....cheapest bidder...
Anyways, I told him to buy whatever he was using now in HIS own car (Castrol GTX :shocking: ) and get 4 more samples of oil I recommended. Get a stainless fry pan, pre-heat the oven to 325* and pour 4 ounces in each pan and clock it for 10 minutes each, and get back to me with the results... :) The ULTIMATE test for oil.

Okay...So I guess I will get some Quicksilver 25-40 for the time being and then switch to Mobil 1 syn on my next oil change. Should I still use 25-40 in the Mobil 1 or do I want to get something different?
