This is our first inboard boat and just curious if I need to change or clean the flame arrestor. Does it work like an air filter in a car? Also, if it doesn't act as a filter, why do boats not need filters?
Thanks,
Wes

Wes it serves two purposes, flame arrester in case of a carb back fire and air filter. It catches mostly belt dust, I was mine in gas when it shows of any dirt then spray a light coat of CRC rust preventative. No it will not rust it is brass or copper but the CRC RP is very sticky and catches far more dirt than if just cleaned, some I know spray K&N filter oil on them it does the same thing. With the spray it gets dirty quite a bit sooner as it catches more.

Thanks Phil, That is good to know about. Looks like I have more maintenance to do.
