I have my 22 for a few weeks now and believe I need more prop also the boat feels like it want to roll over while turning at 30 0r 35 mph.
I checked the tach and its correct 5400 RPM 78 MPH on my GPS I spoke to Dan at the prop shop he suggested a turbo 27 $299.00
Would the prop cause the boat to turn badly or is it just its nature my wife is not happy with the turns and the porpising. More speed seems to fix the porpising but it kind of a pain.Im pretty happy with the speed but more would be better.

78 GPS in that boat is cooking. What is pushing it? Seems like 450+HP is required to do this with a non-Blackhawk entry ??? As well, the revs seem high.

What motor is in it.

As for turns, I thought that was the BEST part :D

My thoughts!
RPM to high shoot for just under 5K, 46-4800
At idle speed put your tabs way down the boat will track real straight. Porpising is also easily controlled with the tabs, when you get to desired speed tap them down a little at a time untill it levels out. Some guys will put a tab down a bit to reduce the roll in a turn. I am sure you will master the tabs and make you sweetie happy.
All deep V boats roll up in turns much more so in one direction or the other depending on prop rotation, with your right hand wheel it will roll much higher in left turns. 16's and 18's will take a bit of water in the engine vents when turned hard.

P.S to last post I like your symmetrical transom, dual flushes, dual pressure dumps and the engine looks nice and tricked.

just my thoughts... correct me if i am wrong, but shouldn't you prop the boat to operate within a few hundred rpm range where the motor is making peak HP? laboring an engine it isn't the greatest thing to do eh...

Jamie I agree with you 100%, engines make better power at higher RPM's. But many feel me included, feel that pushing the drives over 5K is where things tend to break :wrench: . Would it not be better to try to make best power right at or just a tad over 5K and keep things together longer. An opinion  You know I am not chasing the young Lion's! :checkered

Thanks for the tips the tabs down at idle sounds like it will help it makes it tough to dock like it is. Do different prop types have a effect on porpising? I was told buy the engine builder it should have around 570 HP.

When I had my 16 I raised the tabs near the dock until I forgot one time, it had no noticeable effect on docking so from then on when I came in I just left them down even on the trailer until next the next time I used the boat. The only time they were up was when running never in any close quarters. With them down it make the boat very manageable at slow speed in tight quarters.

Its a "Hey Mikey try it you'll like it"

The more knowledgeable will give you ideas on props with less bow lift.

Why yes, I always drop a tab when turning.. :smash: :yippie:  :boggled:
NOT me, I always drop a hand in the water to splash myself to cool off from this friggin heat.

I would expect peak HP for a 570HP 454 with dry exhaust to be in the 5500 to 6500 range.

What kind and pitch prop are you running now?

Remember TQ moves the boat not HP........

Usually the HP will keep climbing...like RickR said that motor will probably peak HP @ 5500-6000+. The peak TQ is probably @3650-4000?

This is just me experience and by no means an exact answer!

Your Quicksilver prop looks close to a Mirage, which is a very good performance prop.

What size lake do you boat on?

The Turbo 1 is a great performance lake prop. Offshore and Lake Michigan would be better suited for a Mirage Plus or one of Turbo's props like the Vector.

Try some different pitches before you spend the $$$$$

Sounds like an AWESOME 22 :)

The lake is narrow and about 7 miles long. Do you know if any of the prop shops have 27P for testing? I have read some of the posts and it seems some props handle better than others. Thanks for everyones input.

78 MPG...GPS at 5400 RPM sounds like sweet music to me,better check with your engine builder first thou and find out where the torx peaks along with your hp,it doesnt sound like you have a "stock" mercruiser cam in her,you may have to run it above 5k,if so keep merc racing fluid in the outdrive so it doesnt foam, and keep an eye on your oil temp, should stay around 230-250 when your running hard and dont hold it there for long periods of time(yea right!).as far as props go just about everybody will do a try before you buy just pay for the shipping, a 4 blade will handle better but not as fast as a 3 blade...have fun!

nice #s but more rpms dosnt mean more hp if the motor was dynoed check the print out it will tell you what rpm your motor performs best, torqe & hp with that much power its a beast! poposing , after it planes pick the drive up a bit then tap them tabs give it some time it took me all summer to figure my 22 out and its 425 hp messin with the tabs in fast turns can be hairy everything changes fast .faster than the tabs can move .so my opinion is ,plane, lift drive 1/8 or so drop the nose with the tabs and blow past that foutain with the 2 big blocks dont forget the #1 finger salute as u pass! 78 is fast!

This boat should be going faster with 570hp, a 22 Classic with a 496HO 425hp will do 75mph on a good day.

A 570hp dynoed engine, say 540hp at the prop should push that boat into the mid 80s.

BTWay, the search function on this BB does not work worth a ****, need to use the advanced search always, regular blows.

I am running around 5500 (502/ 22 Classic/ silent choice) but I do not run for extended periods at WOT (oil cooler issues). And I come off plane and let the drive cool.

454 just upgraded to a 502. Drive may fail today, but it has over 1000 hours with lots of offwhore running :)

Is it standard on Donzi that the starboard button to works the port tab ?

txtaz

Uhmmmmm, NOPE....... I haven't been under my dash to look at the switches, but usually Sinlge Two Position switches have 3 wires connected to them. The center is the power wire, the other two are for up and down. I suggest swapping the outside wires on port and stbd switches. Some one else might have ideas at the pump, but on my 18, I would have to get the misses to crawl in there...TIGHT...
Hope this helps,
Wes
