******Coming Soon: Policy and Category Changes In Hunting******
Date: 05/28/04 Time: 05:02:51 PM PDT

Effective June 8th, 2004, we will be making some guideline changes to the Hunting category (found under Sporting Goods). The following restrictions will limit what gun-related items can be sold on eBay:

The sale of any assault weapon-related parts or accessories will not be permitted. This will apply to all parts and accessories related to any firearm defined as an "assault weapon" by federal or California law.
The sale of any firearm receiver or firearm frame will not be permitted. This includes complete receivers and frames; components and parts of receivers and frames; or "cut", "80%", or "partially complete" receivers.

I never bought anything through ebay... Now I never will as long as this inane policy stays intact :fire:

I wouldn't sweat that policy - sounds like what we have for retail sales now. To buy a "receiver" now typically requires a dealer with a Federal Firearms Licence (FFL) - whether it is "pre-assault ban" or not.

I say shoot-em if ya got um...

Digger, your not being an eBay user, I can understand how you would feel that way. I'm not a hunter or shooter, although I've considered it, just don't have time.
But eBay offers a forum for a number of things and activities I don't approve of, like pornographic materials.
I can remember not too many years ago you could buy pirated software all day long, it's harder to find it now.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, eBay is a world wide buying and selling forum based in San Francisco, I'm sure they're just bowing to pressure. I agree with Phil, go to the gun shows while you can.
I know this, as imperfect as eBay is, it's an awesome market. I would have spent twice as much rebuilding my boat without it.

George, good points, and I understand.

My problem with e-bays new policy is that they are bowing to inflammatory and most likely misinformed anti-firearm pressure in the interest of political correctness rather than in the interest of facts and law-abiding commerce.

One could argue that my constitutional right to keep and bear arms is not being infringed since this is a privately owned company free to make policy as they see fit. However I would argue with equal enthusiasm that my rights to gun ownership implies that I should be able to buy and sell, for legal purposes, firearms in a free and unemcumbered manner.

Score one for the anti-firearm lobby, a movement based on scare tactics, hyperbole, and fabrication.

...stepping off soap box. for now.
