Found My Noise, Maybe?

Checked the top of the drive. The lube was down about 1 1/2 inches and the teeth look O:K. Pulled the drive and the bellows was full of gear lube. Big mess in driveway now. The bearing feels tight. When I had the Hot-Snot mechanic come out he said it might be a main bearing. I hate it when the mech. puts his hand on your shoulder, looks at the ground and shakes his head no. My question is could a main bearing going bad shake so much that it blows the seal on the drive? BTW, the motor still makes the noise. New motor is in the works now. Calling Dennis Moore in the morning. What should I look to replace in the drive unit? Thanks for all the help. Greg

I have a hunch the uppers bearing is worn, see if U joint yoke can be moved side to side. If it does I recommend tearing the upper down change the bearings and races, inspect gears well if all looks fine put it back together and re-shim it . Dye check the gears for contact pattern when fully assembled.
