Hi,
I'm hunting for a good condition replacement engine for the tired old 454 that is in my 1983 22' Classic. Considering our very short boating season up here in NY (it's just starting now), I need to be pro-active in finding a replacement before my current one dies so as not to lose the whole season. There is a mercruiser in there now... Would I be able to replace it with one sourced in the OMC flavor?

I definitely don't want one that has tasted salt water. I'm hoping to find one with <200 hours. I'd prefer it to come from a slow loping cruiser rather than one of our fancy speedboats...

Extra points if it is close to the finger lakes in NY. Any advice on this hunt is much appreciated....

Can I hope to get one with fuel injection like this for ~$3000? How about a carbed one? Would I be able to easily drop in a FI one where my carbed one sits without too much hassle?

regards,
Don Banfield

Hi you can put any marine GM based motor in, the outsides are just stickers and paint innards are all about the same. Here are a few of many places to get what you want.

Doesn't Dr. Dan have a low hour 454 for sale? Check parts for sale.
