I searched the archives and there's not much there.

I am considering to add expanded polystyrene (EPS) under the deck as I reassemble the Corsican, just in case I ever stuff this thing I don't want it to sink!

Has anyone ever done this?

What is the weight of an 18' and how much of that is real "sinking weight"? A Corsican has a foam core deck and the wood stringers also add some positive buoyancy along with the foam around the fuel tank.

Thought' s appreciated for, or against!

Mario the later 16's have a big block of foam stuck up under the fore deck ita about 25 inches thick maybe 6-8 cu. ft. The foam will keep it up with only a little of the bow sticking out of the water. You may be able to get a little more bouyancy by adding some in the dead areas in the sides.

...or you could glass across the stringers in the forward hull area and enclose a pile of air and stiffen the hull...

If you like to know how NOT to add floatation...I can show you the factory job on my '76 18 ;)
