Trucker, do you or the doctor have any opinions about the most likely cause?
I suppose either truck driveing or boating could be good candidates.

So, do you have teenagers? They often are a major source for pains in the neck and ass. The vertibrae probably were dislodged at the same time as you acquired the rug burns on your chin. There being very little else for me to offer, I will at least be man enough to volunteer to keep your boat running and in good order. Can you bring it to Florida?
I'm not a doctor, but I would think there is a load on your spinal chord regardless of sitting or standing. Jarring will occur either way. Best to just have it removed. If you are married it may have already started that process.
My apologies that I had nothing serious or helpful to add. And I'm REALLY sorry the "No Boating" sign has been posted. On the other hand, the rug burns are your problem.

After about a year of constant back pain and changing doctors I was finally diagnosed with a herniated disc between the L4 and L5 vertebras and spinal stenosis. Yea !! :frown: , but after taking oral steroids and a few bottles of extra strength vicoden the pain went away.

I still have the spinal stenosis. Most people get it when they hit their 60's, but I’m only 33.

So I keep a bottle of lodine in the medicine cabinet and lost 30 lbs. No doubt the drugs worked wonders, but loosing the weight and eating healthy has kept the pain at bay. I still need to be aware of what I’m doing when it comes to lifting. And I still get an occasional sneeze that tweaks my back because I may be bent over the wrong way when one decides to come.

I haven't been boating yet this year, but I have done plenty of off roading that would have caused problems had I not gotten in better shape.

fasttrucker one of my best friends has a paint delivery route that also pays very well, when he flip's his back which is pretty regular. He hires the young and dumb for cheap and does no lifting untill he feels good, says it was the best thing he ever thought of. Might be a good move for you until you get back up to snuff.

I have no personal experience w/ back problems, I've been really blessed (59 years old, 6'-0", 224 Lb).
My mother-in-law, however is diabetic, and is now experiencing the traditional problems of late 70's, diabetes, & arthritis. She has a tough time walking before 10:00 AM. Anyway, she has met a recipient of a treatment where something is injected between the vertebre to take care of these types of problems, apparently permanently. This person is now playing tennis. Her specialist is setting up an appointment with some specialists at Mayo Clinic in Jax. She is very optomistic. I'll keep you informed.

Believe it or not, almost everybody beyond the age of 25 has Herniated disks, L4-L5 is the most common. You must have one of the good doctors, because he/she told you to get physical therapy - the best solution. The ortho guys tend to take the quick fix method (and it helps with their Porche payments)

I had the problem in my 30's, and therapy did the trick. It was an Olympic's year and there was an ice skater that was throwing around his partner like she was a rag doll. The comintators (where's the GD spell check), were marveling that only 6 months before, he had been diagnosed with a herniated disc.

In my search for pain relief I learned a lot about the subject. You're welcome to email me if you have any questions.

One last thought. Our Rotary club had a pain specialist (from a prominate institution) give us a presentation today, and she said that they now know that there are certain exercises that will solve back pain.

Good luck, enjoy the stretching, and know you will ride again.

ADHD is a blessing and a curse. I never knew I had it until my late 30s! On the downside one tends to misplace items, take the consequences for blurting or typing out responses w/o full thought (ex. my Genth era comment last year), and get bored and ignore day to day matters. On the plus side, the periods of hyperfocusing can be terrific for getting things accomplished.

The mood swings might not be from ADHD. ADHD is often found to be a co-morbitidy with some other neurological condition such as bi-polar disorder. If that turns out to be the case, ritalin which is a stimulant, might not be the best medication or might be better used in conjunction with a mood stabilizer such as Depakote.

In October of 2000, I hurt my back pretty good trying to carry a 12 bolt GM rear by myself. Dumb move. Almost dibilatating injury. I still have 3 herniated disc's, L3-4, L5-6 and S1-2, L5-6 also has stenosis. The front quadrant of my left leg is still numb as a result. I parked my motorcycle for 2 years. I suffered miserably, in tears at times, until a good chiro friend of mine told me to take my fat wallet out of my back pocket, and leave it out. You see, when you sit, it distorts your spine in a bind, and makes your lower bones do a slight twist, while your trying to sit up straight. Within 2 weeks, I felt super. I have not really had a day of pain since. I no longer keep it in my back pocket while sitting. I was ready for back surgery, actually I was ready to be put to sleep.... I also did therapy at a wonderful sports medicine clinic in South Miami for 3 months. Never looked back.
