OK...I know we have gone over this before but I could really use some quick input.

I just received my renewal for my 1968 18 in the mail yesterday from National Marine Underwriters. It went up over $300.00!!!!! I expect the same for my 1971 Donzi...This is crazy. Just for the 1968 its $1010.00! :kaioken:

OK....so who uses a good insurance company that I can call ASAP. The boat is insured for $30,000 so I would need something similar.

Thanks guys! :biggrin.:

Scott,

Just called both Geico and Allstate on insurance for the 16'...the quote that Allstate gave me was $275.00 for the year.

Turns out that Geico reinsurses thru NMU so the price will be crazy time. I do not think that Geico insurses customers in NJ as the had a run in with the insurance commission in NJ and Geico told them to $@$% off.

Hope that helps,

KJ

Have you tried your home insurer? Sometimes they act like they have a vested interest, and they try harder.

Scott,
I tried using my insurance agent who I have all my insurance thru, home car life health flood fire he said no problem wrote a ploicy 30 days later terminated cause it was a performance boat, so now I use a co. called american reliable for about 500$ a year for about 15k coverage so it would sound like the same price.
Marie can't find their info she just paid the bill so when she finds it i'll send it to you

You Want Fleet coverage right??? ;)

Progressive doesn't insure boats in Jersey apparently. :( I've been shopping around too, without much luck. I've tried through my agencies that handle my cars and home, and they almost laugh at insuring anything with over 200 horse....

Thanks guys....Yes that the problem in NJ. Seems alot of companys dont want anything to do with this state. I will be looking into it more this week. I will not pay what Marine Underwriters want...its way to much.

Scott,

FWIW, I have my boat also with NMU . . for a much lower cost, and insured for 1/2 apparaised replacement value . which was $34K. 69 Corsican

The insurance rate would have been signifigantly different (ie; more) if I had it insured for salt water use, and not trailered.
the baot is insured for freshwater use and while trailering anywhere in the US .

Scott, I've got my 68 18' insured with Zurich North America out of Chicago. It was $365 last year for 25,000 and also covers the lower unit if I take it out on a rock or something. The insurance Rep. is Heritage Marine Ins., Mystic, CT.1-800-959-3047. Liability is $300,000.goodluck, bigman.

Mario,
Half the value is $34,000? Or do you mean $17,000?

How much less are you paying? It was $700.00 last year and now they raised it over $300.00 more this year.

Just called Heritage at the above number, I was told by the Gal I spoke with they will no longer write a Donzi policy due to new guide lines. Which are based on speed, I argued that there are thousands of center consoles out there that go as fast or faster, and the guys are standing, not safely seated as we are. Bigman do me a favor and PM me your brokers number maybe he has an idea.

I have had Allstate since 1988, my 18 ran $249 per year with a $100 deductable. The cost of the coverage doubled with the 22. I was very pleased with Allstate's service when I banged up the drive last year. The boat was repaired and the check was in my mail box in less than a week.

Great information. I know things are changing out there with all these insurance companys getting greedy...or maybe its all the bad drivers that make our insurance go up.

Any way.....thanks for the feedback. I will be calling around ASAP.
