I am looking for a new windshield for my 1987 Z-25. Does anyone know where I might be able to locate one, or have one made?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mark,
welcome to the registry. You might try using the search function; I think there was a thread about this not too long ago and I beleive someone found a place that already has the specs and can make one for you.

Is yours in good enough condition that you could take it to a local plastic shop? If so, you might be able to do that as well.

Good luck,
fish

I tried a search, and the only thing I was able to find was someone that built windshields for a Z-29 and Z-33. I have no idea if the Z-25 is the same, but tend to doubt it.

what kind of shape is your old windshield in?

It is cracked all the way through, vertically, on the front section. I can sort of snap the two together and it looks ok from a distance.

There's a company here in St. Pete that builds the windsheilds from scratch if you have the pattern.

The original windsheild company was called STRATOS in Bradenton. The windsheild for the Z-25 was originally $2,000. Stratos is not in business anymore. I had a Z-25. American Fabricators in St. Pete made on for me for around $750, I think. Boating ain't cheap, is it?

Donzigo, American is who I was thinking of too.

Dukkilr, If the windshield can be laid out so a local fabricator can get an idea of the shape, I am sure that you can get them to make you a new windshiled.

I wish I had been able to get a (hurricane damaged) replacement made for the Magnum (25) for $750 !

Aluminum 2000 in Pa. does great stuff and great folks to work with...but first cost was still $5230 :eek!:

last year I replaced the windshield on my 21' Scarab. It was the wraparound type with no frame. I went to a shop that sells plexi-glass and lexan in 4'x8' sheets. I bought some 1/4" lexan of the right color and used my old windshield for a template. Cut it out with a sabre saw uning a fine tooth blade running VERY slow, took a long time. We then used sandpaper in graduating grades to smooth it out. We held it on the side drilled and screwed as we went. 20/20 hindsight I would have used 3/16" smoked lexan. Easier to work with and I think it would look cooler. Holding that 1/4" stuff on there and trying to drill it was like wrestleing an alligator. If you need any more info write back here or contact me directly. Good Luck Greg
