I'm in the process of moving to Atlanta. What lake do I need to get closest to.

Lake Lanier to the northeast is probably your best bet. There are a few other members on here who live there or nearby.

My wife's not moving until August so I've got time to look around. I've got an apt in Kennesaw at the moment down from Allatoona. Allatoona looks more like a mudhole (from the interstate) than a lake.

Springs, we go to both but I prefer Lanier. Allatoona is just as busy but much smaller and the ramps suck at Allatoona on the weekend. The water on Lanier is alot nicer!!!! If you want to meet up and have me show you Lanier this weekend shoot me a PM as we are going on Saturday.

No need to drive, most of the Cheetahs can be found in Cocktail Cove or Illinois Creek...

Springs, welcome to the neighborhood! (I'm in Acworth, down the street from Brookstone.) Take a run out to Red Top Mountain Park and the dam to see the deepest part of the mudpuddle... but that said, given a choice of lakes, I'd take Lanier in a heartbeat. Bigger, cleaner water and, um, fewer (this is killing me to say) rednecks.

What flavor Donzi do you fly?

Last time I was on Lanier was 1969 but I remember it to this day.... if I didn't live in paradise, that's where I would boat....

If distance to Atlanta doesn't matter, I would choose far northern Burton or Rabun over even Lanier. But be aware, anywhichway, that commuting from Lanier or thereabouts is utterly dreadful. Not that Toona is much better; but at least boating Toona on weekdays is decent and you won't spend quite so many "wakeful" hours idling on 85.

Georgia lakes belong to the Corp Of Engineers and they dry them up as soon as they find frost on their pumpkin. With the current drought, as in years past, lake levels will take time to reach pool. But I swam at Toona this afternoon and the level was pretty much what it normally is this time of year.

Bunches,

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm currently flying a 89' 22 Classic Teal/White.

I've got three locations in the metro area to look after. One around Covington, one in Cartersville and one in Duluth. I was looking at the map yesterday trying to find a happy medium. What kind of place is Lawrenceville?

Need more info on the Cheetah Lounge

Whew, I was sweating that "mud-hole" comments. Thank goodness that Toona agreed.

To heck with Cheetahs, the word on the street is that there's some pretty racy "snow bunnies" up around Altoona. (Check out "Donzi girls section" for more inormation) ...............:-)

I apoligize for the "mudhole" comment Toona. I was told this morning once the water level rises the water tends to clear up a bit. Don't they hold big money bass tournaments in Allatoona?

we live in cumming and are about 5 minuts from lake lanier it depends on where you work as to were you would want to live traffic in atlanta sucks. I would steer clear of lawrenceville though to crowded and gwinnett schools are not the greatest. if your looking to buy a house my wife has lived here her whole life and knows the area inside and out here is a link to her website. Tina vanderhoff (http://www.tinavanderhoff.com) also let me know when you are down here we can go for a run on Lanier if you like. it gets kind of rough on the weekends but is great durring the week. we go to hartwell alot on the weekends.

I want to live as close to the water as possible without being stuck in traffic for hours every morning. I'll probably spend more time at the Covington location than any other. How busy is the southbound lane of Hwy 20 during rush hour?

mikev
03-30-2004, 09:29 AM
not sure about hwy 20 covington is a good 50-60 miles from lake lanier and even further from altoona. so the commute would suck unless you worked off hours to miss traffice. there is another big lake out east of covington but I cannot remember the name.

Lake Oconee.

I'd like to be about halfway between Covington and L. Lanier.

I checked out your wife's website. I'm looking to buy a place within the price range of the commission she's getting off the houses she's currently listing. I'll be meeting with our company relocation specialist first of next week and I'll be sure to bring up your wife's name. She can email more info at

Thanks

Lake Oconee, east of Covington, is lovely, but that whole area is the far side of the world from Lanier and Toona... they've just built the new Ritz (http://www.ritzcarlton.com/resorts/reynolds_plantation/) out there, so I'm thinking that the rest of civilization can't be far behind.

Bunches,

Celene 'part time snow bunny'

P.S. They take their bass verrrry seriously around here, even though Toona is also known as the Dead Sea. Lake/Fishy Info (http://www.fishin.com/reports/ga/gareport-contents.html#reports)

commission on the purchase of a home is paid by the selling party so as a buyer it will cost you nothing and using an agent as a buyers rep protects you because they represent you in the transaction not the seller. I will send her your email and have her email you.

You misunderstood me Mike.

What I was saying was I'm in the market to buy a house equal to the price your wife is making on the homes she's selling.

Springs,
Uh, ummm,... I think Tomahawk already has the territorial rights to Lake Lanier as far as teal and white Classic 22's. Better check with HIM first!! LOLOLOL If you move to Jacksonville, FL, the commute is wide open until you get to Atlanta.... We could use a teal and white 22C here. And we don't drain our lakes. Our biggest lake is just east of town. Water is a bit salty, and it can get a little rough during late summer tropical wind storms, but we don't boat on those days anyway.
Welcome to the SEADOG's!

Tomahawk may not have the only teal & white now but he'll have the nicest. At least this summer he will. My entire interior really needs to be replaced.

Can't wait to get completely moved and settled in. I've always read about and seen the photos of all the Donzi gatherings across the country w/ envy. I think we had a total of 8 registered Donzi's in the entire state of SC and I can't recall ever seeing one post on the site. Can't wait to meet you all.

Welcome home Springs! Of the places you mentioned, Duluth or Lawrenceville are closest to Lanier. Also an easy shot up I-85 to S.C. and Lake Hartwell. Traffic going south towards Atlanta is an issue regardless of where you locate.
Teal and white 22 Classics are always welcome at my dock. Actually, all Donzi boats and occupants are always welcome.
Ole Miss - stop by this week-end if you are up this way. Springs and all, I'm about to post an invitation to all Donzi brothers and sisters to come to Tom's Live Bait and Sushi Shop on May 2 for the third annual BBB run. Interpretation - my house for boats, burgers and beer. This is our Georgia warm up and shake down for AOTH IV. More when I'm not so sleepy.

I told my wife about all the hosipitality I've been shown and the info about the area I've received the last couple of days and she decided to register. Her user name is bsprings. Please take the time to say hello and maybe I can talk her into becoming a Donzi Girl and postin' a few photos. I'm hoping that after this summer she'll realize that a Donzi is not just another boat!
