Nice looking 22', at a great price to boot!

Take a pristine '67 16' in trade?

Very nice I am curious what speed it runs, I am doing up a 383 now to go in my 22. I am going for a few more ponies and a BH drive, wish mine was as sweet looking as yours.

383 has been really good to me. Its actually pretty good on gas (as if that really matters). MOP, I would definitely have yours balanced and blueprinted. You won't believe how smooth it is. It doesn't even shake when it idles. Lot more torque than a 350, planes very fast, and WOT from 20 or so rips pretty good. I am sure a big block would plane the boat faster with five people in it, but I don't really do hole shots in mine unless its full of chicks. BH drive would be a nice addition for me, but the Alpha has been strong. How many HP are you looking for?

Jabes I'm finishing up a 383 Lunati 6" rod stroker kit, its internally balanced with Lunati cam and pistons Comp rollers Crane rockers, all stuffed in an old high nickel 4 bolt block with a bunch of machine work. Pro T heads, I think it should pump out around 400. Need to get a decent exhaust setup.

Sounds like you know a hell of a lot more about motors than I do. Should be a sweet rig! Good Luck!!!

I do know a fair bit about motors being an Old Mech but not up to date stuff, I have been getting fantastic help from several members "one in particular" that I still OWE! I used to race 4 decades ago so all of my go fast knowledge was very stale. I was with the excellent help of others going to do my 350 over with decent but not near as good as Lunati, I fell onto a deal buying this mostly completed engine from a Fountain dealer that was building it for himself. It was to be used for tounament skiing, he had Lunati cust grind the cam for torque. He moved his Biz and just had no time to complete the project "Lucky me" I did the math on what all was there and came out a real winner. It is now in the hands of the very few people that I would let touch anything of mine an old buddies shop that builds most all of the race engines in our area, in particular circle track engines and quite a few drag motors. I told him I wanted about 400 HP, he laughed saying an amature could do that with a hammer on a small block so "I am a hoping". Our only issue now is the heads, he has his ideas and my other garu's had similar but different ideas. Tell me about how fast is yours?

About 62 in 1-2 foot chop, about 59 on glass. Those are both with the speedo, but I think its pretty accurate. Fast enough to hurt yourself!

Yes Peter, she is. I will be unwrapping her in the next couple of weeks. I have a few people waiting to check her out when they can see more than just the hull and the outdrive. I think I'll be pulling her out of storage the weekend of May 15th, and the following weekend (weather permitting) she'll be headed out to Harsens Island for the summer. Nice boat, none other like her on Lake St. Clair that I have seen.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to a wet exhaust.... I am assuming that "wet" means under the waterline looking at the pics you showed.

Jabes
10-10-2004, 10:01 PM
"Wet exhaust" means that the exhaust is water cooled as in most boats with an open cooling system. My boat sports 3" thru transom wet exhaust. You are thinking of thru hub exhaust as found on Sea Rays, Four Winns, and other family boats that are quiet. :bonk:

I saw this Classic last year at the MADCOW gathering up in MI. For someone looking to get into a Donzi and needing a 22 to handle ruff water a little better, this Classic fits the bill. Something that I wish Donzi would bring back and is included on the boat is the tuck and roll side/dash padding. I don't know, just always liked that extra interior touch.

Sure wish I had better financial standings right now because this Classic would be behind the truck heading for KY in May. Good luck on the sale. BTW, those are some very nice seat covers also!

Original gel coat? Paint anywhere on it?

Is it sitting on the bottom in the pic at Browns? That is the first 22 Classic I ever saw with the stern sitting so high!! I know a small block is light, but that sits high.

I had a 1986 22' with a small block and it did sit a little higher then a big block.

Yes is has a tandem axle trailer, clear title, and all gel coat and paint is original. I can't find any engine pics, but it looks just like a 350/260hp Mercruiser.

That is a 1960 Chris-Craft Sportfish. Its my best friends boat. One of two. They made something like 30 of those that year, but only a few without the flybridge. It has a plaque on board saying that it was made for one of the Chris brothers. Its so mint. Coolest boat on the lake as far as I'm concerned. The other one is on Lake Tahoe. Its called the Helena. It used to be the Brigadoon til he relaced the transom.

Man! Did you guys catch the beam on that thing?! I have a '55 29' Semi-enclosed that is dwarfed by the Sportfish. Looking at this boat makes me wanna drop $80k on a restoration! http://www.ece.utk.edu/~britton/boats/cruiser.html (http://www.ece.utk.edu/%7Ebritton/boats/cruiser.html). Too bad I'm in grad school!

we were out all day on the 3rd. it ran out great. i will say though,, between having the seat back too far, and the tabs on the windsheild, and the extra 4 feet of bow,, it's much harder to drive than the 18!

but i'll deal with it!
