Shepherd Boats

I am the grandson of Howard Shepherd and the great-grandson of Lloyd Shepherd, founders of Shepherd Boats. It has come to my attention that Shepherd Boats may have built Donzi's under licence. I don't have a great deal of historical literature but what I do have has no mention of Donzi. Can anyone provide details. If I had a few details I may be able to obtain some information. I have a few contacts who worked at the Niagara-on-the-Lake factory in the 70's and if I knew a few details I may be able to ask these people

thank you

Dave, I am sure Shepherd in Niagara on the Lake made the 16 Ski Sporter; most likely in the early 70's. Somewhere in the archives the Harbour Master maybe able to pull up some previous discussions on this topic along with a photo of a 16' Shepherd Donzi that I had posted. Also, if my memory is correct there was some good info as to the history from one of the Donzi Board members ;Al Brown ???

Thanks everyone

I have emailed the acting President of Shepherd during the 1970's. I don't know if his email is valid anymore but if I hear anything I will pass it along

Wecome aboard !!! :D

Good to have you here!

I believe the boats in question were 18', if I recall correctly. The Search feature is not as good as it used to be so it is hard to dig up this stuff. Maybe someone else can handle it better...BUT, they do exist and they ARE DONZI duplicates with your endorsement...This will be fun to find out. :)

??? It seems to me that Brownie is always right, so who is this Jim Hahn fella and how did he fit into the Shepherd "mix" and get licenced to put together Donzi 16's?

Jim Hahn purchased the company from Howard and Lloyd Shepherd in 1957(or 58) and sold it to Trojan in 1966. I am told that Jim Hahn is currently living in Vancouver, Canada

Sooo, these boats would be in the '66 era, thereabouts, and that would explain the insignia (metal). Now, being that Vancouver is 18 miles of water away, I guess the ball is in my court... :D ...we'll get to the bottom of this...

Can you find out from his son if he is still in the "vicinity" and if he is open to a few questions regarding this era? and manufacturing under DONZI's name?

I am sure the son would know...

Lenny. For starters you could stop listening to me. I would have called some, but its all long distance for me. Next one that gives you a hard time, just tell them you are tracing names for a big inheritance, and there is a referral commission. They tend to be more helpful then...Ed

Has anyone posted this topic on the Trojan website. Trojan purchased the company in 1966 so perhaps someone there would know.
