I recently blew the 502 MAG motor in my Donzi. I have come to find out that they no longer make the 502, it is now a 496. I could not afford the 496 HO so I had to get the regular 496. This new motor has 375 HP. Can somebody tell me what kind of power loss to expect ? Looks like I will lose about 100 HP from the old 502 MAG. Any advice or stories to tell ? Thanks in advance !

Unless you had a "blue motor" your old 502 efi should have been rated at 415 ponies.

P.S. Post some pics and welcome to the board.

It appears that I get to be the first to say welcome to THE Donzi board.
Unless your old 502 was tricked out a bit you will only be loosing 40 HP at the prop.
Most seem to feel that the new 496's are better than the 502's but that probably also depends on which one it is... HO or standard.

I also have a 502 and hope to get a few decades of reliable service out of it :crossfing

How was it yours blew up ?

I have a dumass brother in law ! ! If he ever touches my keys again he WILL pull back a nub ! ! ! The wife wanted to get a brand new motor, so I did not argue to much abou it. I am glad to see that my power will not drop off to bad. It has been in the shop for 4 months now and I expect to get it back tomorrow. Any advice on breaking in the new 496 ???

Wish you would've came here earlier with your question. I know 502 long blocks are still available and could've saved some $$ over a new 496.

If I were you rebuild your 502 the 496 is not a mag and that 40hp loss you will be running at 58-60mph big loss for that boat speed and resale. I had experiance with the 496/375 not my choice of motors. Your boat is running 65 mph with the 502.
