Are K-Planes necessary on a 22 Classic? Just curious!! :odie:

Necessary?

The 6"X9" single actuator were inadequate for me (some offshore and spirited driving) so I switched to 12"X9" dual actuator Sport Tabs.

No more broken actuators and much better handling in the slop :D :yippie:

I would be EXTREMELY cautious about putting k-planes on a 22, I think its probably overkill. Unless you get really short tabs, and in that case you could just stick with Bennetts or the like... First time I really played around with mine on the 33 I was shocked at how sensitive they are... on plane if you lean on the down switches they will throw the bow down (keeping in mind my boat weighs around 11k pounds wet) like you wouldn't believe. just my $.02

Undertaker...

The 150S K-Planes are more than adequate for a 22 Classic. THe 280S K-planes are a bit of overkill. The 150S K-planes came from the factory on Tom Davis' boat, and they work the balls. Alot of the guys run the Bennett Sport Tabs, and they do the job just fine. The 22 Classic really doesn't need alot of playing with the tabs... I usually set em & forget em...

I have K planes on my 22 classic and would recommend them if you run in rough water, I run on Lake Erie and normal conditions are 2'+, with the planes It makes the ride a lot more comfortable when it gets rough, but they will not give you any better top end.
I have been on smaller smooth lakes and they really don't make too much difference there.

There is 1 other neat feature with the K planes, if you lower them all the way when you are running over 40 you get a really cool rooster tail.

FWIW all Blackhawks came with K-planes.

I have 280s on my 22 classic. They maybe a bit overkill, but they do work well in rough water and you can make the boat do anything you want. Last but not least with the tabs down the boat gets on a plane like a jon boat with no horizon loss. I also found that when making a hard turn the boat does not want to roll on it's side as easy. :checkered
