I found this pic "surfing" today. There appears to be two helm stations. Also, a US flag on the side? Brownie or anoyone know what this was and when?

The rear helm is probably just something to hang on to.

Its a special set up to teach New Up-and-coming Offshore Racers how to operate a boat. Teh guy in teh back can take over in case of emergency. ;)

In case they stuffed the boat into a wave and the pilot did a face plant into that wind deflector, the co-pilot could just shove the unconscious shlub to one side and finish the race. Now that's what I call a real He-man sport!

OR..........

Each engine has its own independent helm. Helps in handling those tricky quartering seas, and cross chop. :jestera:

Not so far fetched!
A couple of years ago several F1 car teams built tandom seated F1 cars to initiate the sponsors reps. I imagine what it really did was ruin a bunch of driving suits! :rlol: :rlol:

http://www.gommoniegommonauti.it/storiafuoribordo/racing/x115.jpgThat is a "Supermother" born of Aronow, sold to and built by T-Bird. The mold has a 45 degree reverse transom, which is not used on the outboard. I think that pic is Doc Morgan and Ziggie Kane. Never won s###.

Lenny,

The year was 1968 when that photo took place that's all I can tell you. Because the Evinrude hanging off the stern was a limited production race motor for that year only and I had one back then on my 14-1/2 ft Carlson contender. Called the "X1-15" 115 horse V-4 above the cavitation plate exh with a duel pinion drive 1:1 ratio quickie lower unit.

I would try researching all the O/Shore race groups sponsored by Evinrude.

Good luck,
Walt

Ps, It was a real thrill seeing that engine again, Thanks!! :)
Duel steering station was how you achieved "primitive power steering" back then! and i'm tired you take over for awhile.

walt,
Carlson looks like a sweet ride, but sure looks like you have come a long way with the picture in your avatar. There was a 16ft carlson tunnel on ebay recently carlson (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=31270&item=2460311175&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT) . Not nearly as nice as yours, but looked pretty cool and seemed like a decent buy.

Thanks Fish it was a real panic to have and handle.
I had to make a s/s racing bottom fin after I kept snapping the standard aluminum ones off. :hyper: And it was the fastest boat around at that time. I haven't gone that far per the pictured "avatar" it's my fantasy only! It was the only worth while pic that I could find that was less then the required 100X100 pixel or less needed to fit without copying some other members avatar which I think takes away from the instant recognition that the personal avatar was suppose to create.

Also there is another Carlson contender on E-bay currently with a similar type pic painted on the bow of Big Daddy Ed Roth's "RatFink" like I had. To bad its futher than I would care to travel for another toy that I don't have the time or the $$ to maintain.

Thanks for the e-bay tip just the same Fish! ;)
