Before I have it altered, would anyone with a 14x24 LH Ultra want to swap for a 14x22 LH Ultra. Serial number is 853789-6. My 18 needs a little more pitch I think... If not, I'm going to have my local prop shop add an inch or two. But since these things are so rare, I thought I'd ask...

It's not brand-new, but it's close! :wavey:

Mike Hood's Prop Service in Houston. Dude, who told you can't pitch SS? Someone trying to sell you a prop? :jestera:

Did you read my first post? I know I can have it repitched, I thought if someone wanted an original unmolested Ultra, I'd swap 'em.

Thanks 'Poodle!

But old Mike's been doing my props, (and my dad's old race props) for over thirty years. Never had a complaint.

There is definitely a limit on how far you can go. I would think that a half-inch or so would be OK, but two inches I believe would be pushing it for an Ultra. Only a good performance prop guy could say for sure. Remember, the three blade Ultra series of props are built with at least six different molds - three for the leftys (22, 24, 26) and three for the rightys. If prop builders could use just one or or two different molds and then just beat them with a hammer until the were the right pitch, you can bet that they do it - but that's not the case. I would also think that a 22 Ultra repitched to a 24 would not perform the same as an out-of-the-box 24 Ultra - and I'm not just saying that beacuse I have a 24 left for sale. Also, an un-molested left-hand Ultra has great re-sale value, but once it has been severely reworked, I doubt you could sell it for very much if you decide to cut it loose because it didn't work out for you.

Here is my guess on what near mint to mint condition three-blade Ultra props are worth based on scarcity:

22LH $250 - $300
24LH $400 - $450
26LH $500 - $550

All RH Ultras $150 - $250

Deduct for damage, rework, or bad hub.
Add $50 for upgraded hub.

The latest "new" price from Volvo-Penta was about $415 for all sizes.

I too would get a second opinion from Throttle-Up as well before letting anyone hammer two more inches on to that prop.

I'll go an inch first and see how it goes. It may be just right. If I need more, I'll go more.

That's why I thought I'd try trading it first. No takers.

Thanks!!

Well, I had Hood's add an inch to my 14x22 Ultra... It's PERFECT! Holeshot is great, cruise 34mph @3000rpm and top speed is 53mph @ 5000rpm.

Thanks for all the input!
