OK, so outboards are the bastard children of sites like this, but here is some info and pics from the miami boat show where Merceruy unveiled its newest $100 million motor.

It is callerd Verado. For the past few months, Merc has been leaking info calling in "projext X". This is a Supercharged 4 stroke that is supposed to deliver the fule ecomony and emissions of a 4 stroke, AND deliver the torque of a 2 stroke.

Most OB companies have been pushing consumers towards the 4 stroke for the gas mileage and emissions. They are traditionally sluggish and low on torque. The Supercharger supposedly addreses this and makes the Verado feel like a beefy 2 stroke, while quietly (relative term) pushing the boat with the benefits of a 4 stroke.

This is a heavy engine- 635lbs, so you will probably not see them on light go fast boats like the mirage, STV, Allison, HST,... However should be a nice motor for Center consoles and boats where the extra weight does not make that much difference.
