I think this has been asked before, but what would the price tag on a 2004 22ZX with 377 motor loaded with options be. Is top end 65-67 mph with the 377. How is the 350 mag in this boat would the extra 50 more horses be worth the extra cash in the long run. Just curious

I would not buy the Scorpion for the extra speed. Downfalls of a Scorpion, Racing motor. to much to rebuild to much to maintain, and adds a big dollar amount to the boat. Go with the 350 mag 63mph you can get a whipple or a vortech for the 350mag and run 80mph with of a headache... The one thing when you whipple a 22ZX you can never run them wide open anyway so you will never kill the motor. But you cruise at 65mph at 3200rpms and your not in boost. The bravo drive handles the xtra HP no problem. That would be my choice

We ended up selling this new 2001 22ZX with 6.2L(377)/Bravo for $44K with the trailer. The original asking price was $52K; my dad got desperate and wanted to get rid of it. Donzi does not list the 6.2L or Scorpion 377 for the 22ZX anymore but I'm sure they would build one if someone asked. I agree with Frank and would not buy the Scorpion but would instead buy the 6.2L motor. Don't quote me on this but from what I remember the 6.2L adds $2K-$3K over the price of a 350MAG, Scorpion adds $10K-$13K. 6.2L is listed at 320PSHP, Scorpion is 350PSHP.

Frank, When considering a used 22ZX where there any particular problems with the 1998 models? (first year or the stepped bottom).
Also if 2 comparably equipped used ZX's were available for the same price would you go with the 350mag/bravo or 7.4 (310hp) bravo? Which of the 2 is more efficiently upgraded? I'm sure I would want to "whipple" the 350 mag in the future. Is that the same upgrade you would make to the 310hp? How much of a premium would you be willing to pay for the 7.4 (385hp) or 8.2(415hp) ?

That makes sense Frank whipple the 350mag and you get the performance you are looking for along with no worries of motor problems , thanks for the advice will keep it in mind for future reference.

For the 2002 and up 350 mag, Whipple, Procharger, or Vortech currently do not offer a supercharger package. I've been looking to upgrade my 2003 with little luck. I'm even considering an upgrade to the 496 mag HO. Maybe will just end up adding headers and tweaking the tune-up. Looking for advise.

Get a 22 Classic with a 496 Mag or HO and you will run 70+ no problem. After running in the 70s in a Classic, 63 in a 22 ZX will seem kind of tame. Both Wipple and ProCharger make nice kits for the 496.

Undertaker,
This is a modified Reflections graphic with the purple and yellow switched. The standard graphic has yellow on top and purple on bottom with a red fade in the yellow by the flag. The standard Reflections graphic looks better. We switched this one because a previous customer had just ordered the same boat with standard Reflections paint and we didn't want to have two boats that looked exactly the same in our area. In the end though this boat ended up going to New York.

The purple on top in the picture looks good but maybe it would be to much purple if seen in person. Thanks for the info.

I'm sorry , but are these kits sure?? is it not just a little dangerous to ride a gasoline boat, with these kits??

Excuse me for strange questions but in Europe these kits don't exist...

Yes, but only on cars!! :italy:

I ride an overcharged Mitsu Evolution 7!! :smash:

Boats are on the other hands seen as more dangerous with these kits...

Integra, see if you can get a copy of the April 2003 edition of Power Boat, there is a good comparison between Whipple and ProCharger kits. In short Whipple has secured a deal with Mercury to calibrate the 555 ECU used on the 496 Mag and HO. This recalibration has allowed Whipple to tune the computer around their supercharger, and run more aggressive boost. The ratings are, Prochager running 3.5 pounds of boost. 496 Mag 375 hp to 550 hp, 496HO 425 hp to 580 hp. Running 5 Lbs of boost. 496 Mag 590 hp and the 496 HO makes 625 hp.

The Whipple with the reprogrammed ECU makeing 5/6 Lbs of boost. The 496 Mag will make 590-600 hp and the 496 HO will make 625-645 hp. No matter how you cut it these blowers really wake the 496Mag and HO up. Pricing US will range from $5,396 to $6,695. I'm sure Power Boat will send you a back issue. :pizza:
