I have two sons in the finacial sector and abide by their very strick orders to stay the hell off the net with a credit card. Much more is going on out there than many would imagine or is reported. A very good practice is to use the phone, make sure you log names of order takers.

These things have to be killing paypal. It seems their reputation wasn't exactly sterling before these scams. I closed my account last week.

I have to say, I have done more online orders for shoes, clotes, sunglasses,cd's etc than I have on the phone. One time had a problem, idiot sent and charged us for the same thing 3 times!! sent them back, stop payment then bought the things from another site.

I got that e-mail last month, and even though the return address looked good ebay.com, etc, I thought it was bogus simply cause I've never had a Paypal account and never had a credit card.
I get junk phone calls all the time also, asking me for information regarding a credit card I don't have.
Its a shame that alot of sites, like ebay require credit card informaton if you want to sell, even though they have been shown repeatedly to be wide open to hackers.
Never pay any attention to an e-mail that requests information like this. Even if it looks completely ligit. There are also bogus sites out there, most make you think its a government auction type site, and the first thing they ask you is your social security number. No ligit site should ever ask for infomation like this. You may also get a really obnoxious e-mail to a porn site, or some other sick come-on with the option to be removed from the mailing list. Do not enter your e-mail address, or reply in any way to these. All they are doing is automatically seeking out valid addresses. You think your cutting the address from the list, when in reality you are adding you address to a list. I tested this once using a freebee e-mail address like mail.com. Every time I sent in a remove request, the number of junk e-mails doubled. Last time I checked the account, it was packed full. Sometimes the best of intentions can set the stage, so to speak. For instance, one of the clubs I belong to created a unigue URL to the name I also use in the phone book, automatic gophers routinely cross reference to phone lists and match the names up to valid e-mail accounts. Doing a vanity search can reveal your level of exposure on the web. Sometimes, I can't stress enough, that the web isn't Mr. Roger's Neiborhood.
Regarding Paypal. The fella that started Paypal, recently sold the whole shebang as an exit stratagy.
