Could someone tell me where the serial number can be found on the engine block for a Ford 351 Windsor and also how to determine what year it was made? I may replace this with the same in a crate motor. Could you tell me who offers the best deal?

Thanks

the block casting # is next to the starter, the head #'s are under the valve covers and the intake # is in plain view.

c blank means 1960 and the year ie c9 is 1960.
d blank is the 70's
e the 80's ect.

the better 351 blocks and heads are 69-70. (thicker webs on the two bolt mains.) stay away from the 75-76-77 heads. small valves = no flow.

what year are you replacing? the balance weights changed in 80?

the block number is under the intake in the lifter galley, its in a circle shape and would say somethinglike 1975W <--- in a circle

To the best of my knowlege Ford never changed the 351W block except to add roller lifters. The heads did change but most marine versions of the 302s and 351s have the old 351 ports. The 302 lost some meat in the main area and bores around 78.
