Buying a Toyota 4 runner this weekend, just wondering if it is worth keeping, and using to tow a boat.

1986 with 67k miles (total on body and engine)
22RE 2.2 litre engine
5spd manual
4wd
owners manual says tows 3500
new paint, has a decent size dent on pass side in front of fender.

How good do these tow? I plan on replacing the panel where the dent is, interior is in good condition, might keep, goot road trip car, if it will pull alright.

Now I will have to find a Blue 18. :D

Yes, I have learned.... Listen to this though.

Ranger Blue book is 4700 in good condition, I am getting dents pulled for free and replacing the seats, asking 4, hoping for 37ish, and I am buying the 4 runner for 200$, plus tax and plates, and lunch for the prev owner. That equals what, 3500 or so in my pocket, for the most important, what is behind the car. Plus a lot nicer than my ranger.

Tommy, we pulled my Dad's new Powerquest 230 Conquest from Georgian Bay home to the 1000 Islands in 1992. The trip was about 350 miles, and the 4Runner was a 1990 5 speed. The truck pulled fine, it was just a little dicey stopping. I think the Powerquest weighs significantly more than an 18 will. You should have no problems.

I agree with Doc and Boxy. I towed our 18 with a S-10 4WD Chevy Blazer. No sweat until one trip in the PA mountains, the darn thing lost the brakes due to an EGR valve problem. Got her stopped at the bottom of the hill, but Thank-God for the Emergency Brake being in good working order!
