I found a 13' catamaran with gaffrig gauges, interor, pop up cleats, nav lights only needs a 50-75hp outboard and a stereo. I have the money to buy it, the guy can wait till april when i will have a license and be able to pick it up. Im wondering about racing it in a small boat class around the midwest. does anyone have any information on a small boat class?

last year, the didnt want me to have a boat incase i broke something, i would have to get it fixed, lots of down time etc...

this year, they think i will want to have a fast car.

it is 1500, which i have more than that now. ill work on the weekends this winter, get money for a car and then in April, license and a boat....

I see it I only have 7 months to convince them. good grades will help A LOT. now i gotta go, need to study wink

"Mr. Insurance Agent, could you please give me a quote on a boat... I'm 15 and I'll be racing it every weekend... hello? hello?... oh, hope you weren't hurt when you fell out of your chair..."

Your annual premium boggles my mind!

Hyper,
You sure that's a boat?
Looks like it'd make a good track car if it had 4 wheels. :D

Hyper:

Contact the APBA. Ask for contact information for the OPC (Outboard Performance Craft) Division vice president. Once you get ahold of him, ask him to refer you to the class reps in the various beginner classes. Talk to them about which hulls are competitive in the different classes.
From the looks of the boat in the pics, my first guess is that despite its nice appearance, it would be uncompetitive and/or obsolete. However, I may be wrong. Outboards were never my thing. Also, I think by now, all OPC classes require enclosed cockpits or "capsules". Here again, I may be wrong. I raced in the Inboard Division and haven't stayed abreast of what they're doing with the egg beaters.
In any case, do you homework so you don't end up wasting you time and money.

Good Luck,
Eric :)
