Hey guys, looking for a good "trustworthy" engine guy. Need a whole new motor that will match up with a alpha one. I would prefer a 454 but I don't know what the gearing would have to be to properly handle the torque. This is for my buddies boat down in Tellico Village. Any help you guys can offer is GREATLY Appreciated. My buddy was just re-deployed to the middle east on another 6 month tour after only being home for 3 mo. from being over there for 1 yr. I'd like to help his wife get the boat back together right for him by the time he comes home. That way, when he comes home and retires...he'll have one less worry!

Thanks.

long time no hear boat_mon! how have you been and the 18 barrel? gonna join us on st. clair?

as far as a 454 with the alpha... unless it is pretty mild that alpha will be a ticking time bomb... if you DO decide to go bbc... 1.32 gear ratio in the alpha for sure...

we can do sbc though :)

ROOTSY....

What up??? I know its been awhile. We bought the new house, did some renovations...and I still managed to keep the boat. I'm supposed to be out of town for work that weekend but its kind of up in the air. So who knows....I may be there!

anyhow, If I was to pickup a new mercruiser 454 (probably the vortec) do you think I could make it work? Or Can you tell me where I can pick up a REAL SOLID, Built 350 and at what price?

what kind of boat is this going into kevin? what is in there now?

you can either put a 350 together or buy a crate motor... going the crate route you will probably come out ahead pricewise unless you want to get into high HP stuff...

right off hand i do not know the best place for a crate 350 that is marine ready... if you went to say gm perf products you'd have to do a few modifications internally...
