What does everyone know about them? Good cars? Insurance is cheaper, Now I pay 900/6mos/liability, would pay 550 for full coverage. Can get 2200 out of Thunderbird, probably talk the guy down to 2200, has 70k actual miles, premium stereo (I think that means cassette!!!) and polished american racing wheels.

That is strange the ins would be less on a Camaro. When I was your age, ins on a Camaro was high as a giraffe's butt. Hey, get what you want. When I was your age, I had a different car about every six months!

Hyper - I'm with Cuda on both accounts.
1. I'm 35 and have owned 17 differnt cars.
2. Two of those were Camaro's and the Insurance was very scary (even when I was over 30).

I sold my last Z28 to the 30ZF (I must have a thing for Z). I for sure have a thing for Camaros, especially the early 4th Gen cars. a '96 or '97 SS will be my next vehicle purchase.

Good Luck.

Hyper:

You might want think about the 1984 Camaro, I remember when we sold them that after they got a few miles, customers had many complaints about rattles and poor workmanship. I have to admitt that GM's quality in the early 80's was not what it is today :( . As far as the the insurance, usally the people that want a Camaro / Firebird can afford the car, but insurance blows them out  .

You might look at buying a good 1/2 ton truck you will need a truck to pull your DONZI one day anyway. wink

You can NEVER go wrong with a pickup. I don't know how people can live without one. I bought my first pickup to pull my first boat, a big azz heavy John Allman 23 footer. It was a 72 3/4 ton Chev with a 350 4 barrel. I paid $800 for that truck, worked the bejeesus out of it for 11 years and sold it for $500. :) Remember, all running trucks have inherint value, many cars have none. An 84 Camaro would fit in the latter catagorey.

Have to agree on the truck comment. Nothing like a bench seat and only 2 doors on a date with your honey. She can slide over and be real nice and close! Go down South to the Carolinas and look for a 72 or later Chevy 3/4 ton. No rust or salt down there. They are nice trucks to customise and come with a 350 four barrel or sometimes, a big block. Automatics usually have a good heavy duty trans. Great boat towing trucks. Oppps, Cuda beat me to the punch on the 72 Chevy. LOL

That way you could even bring the Baja to some of the gatherings away from your home lake if you desired.

The thing about the Camaro that you have to be real careful about is that they only have a half frame under them. Some guys put a full frame under them and tye it all together, but stock, there is only a conventional frame under the front of the car. I've seen in person what can happen in an accident if the car meets an object sideways. Something I now have to live with for the rest of my life due to being stupid while young and drag racing on the street.

Fly on down here to Florida, and I have a sweet running 86 4x4 Nissan that you can drive north for $2500. :)

I don't know where you are in Ohio, but I drove to Huston State Park for a family reunion two years ago, it was almost exactly 900 miles.

I'm sure it was Huston. Missed your chance on the Nissan, sold it this afternoon. Now I have Minx motor money! :)

Hyper, take the car to your local drive-thru car wash. Spend $7 for the WORKS WASH.
After the bath, open the trunk, and the doors, and check for puddles...internal puddles, especially in the trunk by the hinge area..and the door weatherstrips. Be prepared to get wet if your inside looking out :D also look under the dash in case the front cowling area has rust holes. The water will get your feet wet if it has rust here.. wink

Forget the Camaro, mom got mad when I said Camaro... Firebird fan her entire life. Looked online at some late 70s Trans-Ams...beautiful. Found one orange, "Bandit" hurst shifter, Olds 6.6 (403). Needed some brake work and interior work, was 2295, I think I should check it out :)

Hyper:

My 1st new car was a 77 T/A, They had two motors a 6.6 and a T/A 6.6, the T/A 6.6 had about 15 more horses. It was a good car, but I felt like the car was geared to high, (It was somewhere around a 2.59 rear axle ratio, GM was looking for gas mileage.) If you get it, post some picks. My brother and me have been looking for a 73-74 455cid T/A to restore for the last year.
