All right boys, girls, and gurus (buzzilla, MadDog) I need some advice, do any of the currently available upgrades for the 7.3 litre PSD help fuel mileage, or just performance.
Thanks

It's NOT likely you can have both...

On the new 24v Dodges, we are seeing 1-2 mpg improvements across the board and almost 90 more hp at the rear wheels. The PSD trucks seem to pick up about 60-90 hp and mileage stays about the same, maybe a tad worse.

We are able to get 428 rwhp on the Duramax pretty easy. Stock is 228 rwhp.

I just did a setup last week on Frank Drove's 2003 Dodge, and it picked up from 69 mph on the floor towing, to just over 100 with a 11,000lb trailer in tow.

I put the 96 mph speed limiter back in my 2003 PSD, because it would bury the speedo with a 12,000# trailer behind it. Kinda scary...

Fuel mileage is in your right foot, and your brain tells your foot what to do..

TRhanks guys, I don't need more speed, the truck the PSD is in is an E350 chassis 12 foot one piece Unicell van body with a small refridgerated box inside, no real weight, so it already runs like a scalded cat. Every 2 weeks I'm driving from Ottawa to Halifax Nova Scotia, and back (3000KMs round trip, 3 days) and I'd like to try to get a little better mileage, and still run at 120 Km/h.

Best advice I can give ya then, based on your intended usage, is to just leave it alone. Use a GOOD quality 15W-40 diesel oil, only Ford oil filters, and only Racor fuel filters, and run the wheels off it.

We just turned 50 K miles '01 F250 PSD, I am switching to Amzoil, we flushed the motor yesterday per their instructions, drained and put in the Amzoil 15-40 along with their filter.
I will let you know how this works for us.

Won't take sides on synthetics, but I have done very well using them. My fat old Buick went from 27 to 30 at 70mph on cruise control, my Dakota went from 15-16 town to 17 solid, road 19+ to 21. The Audi turbo oddly made little or no difference, that may relate to the FOOT issue.
Another point that I have been delving into is to get an EPROM custom programmed. I have to laugh at the power they put in some of todays trucks, I used to tow my race car with a Ford P/U with if I remember right a 272 probably 150hp went all over hell at 10-12mpg. Always got there on time.

Boxy, highly recommended is the Superchips program for the PSD, just make sure that you add an EGT gage to monitor temps, but my mileage is not affected with the chip and in fact when towing I get better mileage using the 60HP program than trying to tow without it.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will leave it alone for now, the truck's GVWR is only 4353 KG, which means loaded it still weighs less than 10,000 lbs. Hitting 100 mph in the passing lane is simple, and I can't honestly see myself cruising any faster than the 75 mph I run now.
Here are a couple of pics of the truck on the East Coast. http://www.donzi.net/photos/onice1.JPG http://www.donzi.net/photos/onice2.JPG http://www.donzi.net/photos/onice3.jpg
