Forrest

I just talked to the folks at the Georgia State Park Reservation system at (800)864-7275, and they informed me that there are 18 rooms available at George T. Bagby State park and Lodge, at this time for Labor Day weekend (Friday, August 30, thru Monday September 2, 2002).

Call the above number to book a room.

That's a heck of a long weekend...

Where is this and how from Orlando?
Fresh or salt?

Booked 8/30 - 9/02

Scott you da man! No indecision there. Let's get it rollin'! I second the BBQ.

Thanks Toona, I don't think my boss would let me have off from the 20th to the 2nd!!! BTW, the Georgia boys never miss this one, it's in their own backyard. Easy on the boost, Grizz!!! You should hook up and come on down!

Bob, from Orlando get on the Turnpike North to I-75 North to I-10 West to US 27 North (3rd Tallahassee exit) thru Bainbridge, GA, to Blakely, GA, then North on Georgia back road 39 through Ft. Gains, GA, and you are there. If you are using MapQuest or some other road mapping website or software, plug in zip code 31751 as the destination.

Fresh Water - great location on the Georgia Alabama line.

Forrest,
Just to confirm to you I did make my reservation.
MadPoodle, I hope you know the short and fast way through the slalom. I get to practice on the long lines of crabpot bouys every time I go out. In sports cars we call that an Autocross The slalom is only once section of an Autocross run.The entire run can take as much as two minutes and involves many different types of turns, speeding up and slowing down, and "gates." Do we we refer to it as the Aquacross, here? And where at Eufala is there an appropriate slalom course? Will we time from a dead start to a full stop?

I will make reservations too. I am looking forward to it. We WILL have fun. Maybe I'll talk Lil Griz into comming and maybe we will let the littlest Grizzly use the Corsican at this event too. I usually do the S-run with the GPS only with Andy looking for the Bass boat obstructions

I almost forgot to mention my most recent slalom practice experience. AOTH's Friday run to lunch at Conley Bottom. Instead of bouys, we practiced with (floating on their side and mostly submerged) TREES! eek!

Well we would go but Mark said the WA LO is still in the penalty box from last years trip. So it looks like probably the suwanee river if we go. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Chiefland the last trip and had a great time.

Fine! Great! I'm the bad guy! Sure! Why not? With leadership comes responsibility. With responsibility comes critical review. As Supreme SEADOG it is I who must make the hard decisions (although, quite honestly, I wasn't the one who got us "uninvited" by the Park last year. I slept through the whole thing actually). But that is no excuse for me, as Captain of this ship. Hey! We are back in. They don't actually know we are back in because we didn't make reservations as the Donzi Club...so...just maybe...if we leave the the motors off at night they will allow us to stay...
Wa-LO as long as you don't inform them are a Donzi club guy when you reserve your room, they will still take your reservation. Besides. We all like you...no pouting...no pleading to the jury...just get a room, bring Mrs. Wa-LO, and we'll all have a ducky time. Okay?
Mark  (Supreme SEADOG)

WA LO,
And furthermore, I NEVER said you couldn't come to this event. I mearly stated that a certain midnight 600 cu in the parking lot serenade was a serious contributor to the "Donzi Club" being snubbed for a group reservation this year. Hey, you wanna fire up your engine dry, that's YOUR business. When you do it is of no concern to me. In fact I Double Darn Dare you to do it again! No, strike that. I need my beauty sleep. Okay, we'll see you there. No excuses now. You are obligated to return and save face...

We're in. No problem just calling the number Forrest provided. That's the state park central resservation system somewhere in Georgia. BTW, they don't know from Eufaula. To them in Georgia, the lake is known as Lake Walter F. George.
John and Kathy, you need to be there. I don't think you folks had any impact but rather there was some confusion when calling the lodge directly. They like people to use the central reservation system. Besides, it could have been Towell Boy, well, maybe not. Y'all are cordially invited for sure.
Mark - remember the "course" getting to and from the Lakepoint lodge. I'm going down there to practice the week before. wink

Forrest
05-29-2002, 10:14 AM
Tom, thanks for pointing that out that Bagby State Park is on Lake Walter F. George if you are on the Georgia side, which is acutally Lake Eufaula if you are on the Alabama side. George T. Bagby State Park and Lodge is on the Georgia side.

Also, if you can make sure that Big Grizzly & company gets the info as well. I'm sure that he won't want to miss another opportunity to turn up the boost on his Criterian.

Any Blackhawks coming?

As the 'poodle noted above, and as discussed last year at E3, this year maybe we can lock though to the Chatahoochee River south for river run. It should be a great time.

Also, did anyone get a count as to how many rooms are left at the Lodge?

Book now, even if you are not totally sure if you can make it. Bagby always fills up for Labor Day weekend. You can always cancel with no penalty, or better yet, turn your room over to someone who found that they would like to attend but booked too late. Remember, no one has reserved a block of rooms for this event like last year, so it's first turly first come first serve.

Please post here after you book.

Great Nathan! Do you think that we can get Ted up there as well?

How about the other "Suncoast" Donzi folks?

Eufaula IV is close to Atlanta, Charlotte, Birmingham, Mobile, Pensacola, Jacksonville, Orlando, GeneD, Tampa, Miami, and Key West.

Also, the Georgia State Parks reservation hot-line reports at least 12 rooms left at this time. Don't wait to to book, these rooms go fast for the Labor Day weekend.

Emmo - are you in yet?

Forrest
06-05-2002, 10:26 AM
Time to book is NOW!!! Even if there is only a remote chance that you will go. You can hold your room with a credit card and if you find that you can't make it, you can cancel up to three days in advance of your arrival date and not loose a dime.

Don't let these rooms get away from us.

Eufaula IV should be the best yet.

Ok, ok, I'm in already. I actually reserved last Friday, but my stupid computer drive filled up on me again and it has taken this long to get my new drive up and running (it is a laptop, I had to swap, not add a drive).

Grizz- I'll be happy to "chaperone" in the Corsican. I would really love to see how a "real" small block performs!

Hi gang! I'm home from the hospital and recouperating fine. I had a quadruple bypass last friday morning. Too much story to tell now, but I did not have an "event" to start the process. My Guardian Angel was watching very closely over me and put all the right things in place at the right time.
However, I'm "boatin' verboten" until at least mid-September. Dr.'s orders. We don't want to shake, rattle, or role anything inside for a few months. Then.....back to goin' wild. I can't drive a car either for at least 6 more weeks, and no racing until mid-September. So that puts me on the sidelines for all our SEADOG Summer Activities.
I'll chat all this up later.

Welcome back Mark!!! Man that was quick. Those doctors must work like a NASCAR pit crew. Hope you are doing well and are ready for a low-stress Donzi event like E4, or if you can't make that one, then E5 and maybe few in between!

Last Tango

Actually I was hoping to try to make E4, but Nancy and the Dr. put the Ka-Bosh on that. Too soon for me to be handling the boat and trailer, and too soon to jump wakes with someone else. But, soon there after, I'll be back in the line-up. The best part is knowing we boat all year here...and I'll be ready in time for the 2002 Donzi Factory Gathering in Sarasota.

06-14-2002, 02:10 PM
Well, I doubt I'll be able to maky any type of overnight stay... but I'm going to try to round up the family and make the trip for Saturday the 31st.

It's about a 4.5 hr drive from here to Americus... so we'll see how the schedule works out. Not exactly sure it's doable, but I'm at least going to try.

-C

Where's the best place to put in on a holiday?

Forrest
06-14-2002, 04:13 PM
Americus is not very far away from Bagby.

CnV & Family
06-17-2002, 08:00 AM
My younger brother is schooling at GaSouthwestern in Americus... So if all else fails we might be able to crash there.

I've only been down to americus once, and never even heard of Bagby until I started reading this board!

Sounds like a great time. It's rough being the only boating/Donzi person you know. That's why I'd like to meet some of you guys. Sad, but Tom is like 15 minutes from us (if we were close enough to have a lake lot and dock), and I still can't make the time to even just drop in. It's almost depressing.

I presume the state park is the hip place to launch the boat if we are able to make it?

Tom and Bill,

You can thank Scott Baxter for twisting my arm earlier this week, HE is the fanatic!

Great to hear about the TAT. She can claw you, but with a little respect, can be one hell of a great ride. GPS speedo, check. Now what about that tab switch in the handle? Definitely ready for another spin...

As for other beasts lurking out there, I would expect nothing else. Let's just say that the Roadtrip isn't going to show up unprepared. Might have a few tricks up the old sleeve of my own....

Yea, a business trip Scott. That's the ticket!

Todd, now that's a Roadtrip! (thanks Mr. 'Poodle)

Bill, I can't wait to see that new Donzi!

Looking forward to seeing youz guys at Eufaula IV!

I haven't check lately, but rooms at the lodge must be getting scarce by now. If they run out of rooms at Bagby State Park, I know that there are a couple of no-tell-motels nearby in Ft Gains, GA, that look like they could fit even the most furgle of budgets - not to mention they located are close to the nearest (Chevron) gas station.

How 'bout you some more of you Florida guys? Gas is cheaper in Georiga!!! Ted? GeneD?

Any Donzi seats available for (mostly) blonde ballast? (I've a reoccuring nightmare of standing on the docks waving bravely at the departing Donzis... a tiny tear perched in the corner of my eye...)

Prying me from the Tat means that my fingers have once again frozen with fear unto the grab rail! The rest of me certainly tries to fly out of the boat on a regular basis!

Thanks for the kind offers of seat time and I plan to make use of them IF this act of Congress passes and I get to attend. Five hours give or take looks doable, just trying to avoid a late night drive with the Labor Day crazies and make sure I've got coverage for the critters. Will advise!

Directions: For Todd, Farmer Tex and anybody for that matter. From the West, if you get to Montgomery, head SE on 231 and then 82. Go across the lake at the town of Eufaula, into Georgia, still on 82. Go a couple miles to HWY 39 and turn right (south). Go south on 39, past "Tom's Live Bait and Sushi Shop" and the Park will be on the right (west) about two minutes further.
If any one finds themselves in Fort Gaines,GA., take 39 north about 10 miles. It's on the left (west). BTW, gas is cheaper in Georgia. For those that haven't been there, this is real rural, if you know what I mean. :)

Folks, don't let that last room get away to some bass fisherman or worse, a family with a bunch of screamin' kids that's going to complain all weekend long about the noisy boats! Hay dude, what else are you going to do this Labor Day weekend? Throw some dead animal carcass on a fire and stare at the Donzi sitting in the driveway while stuffing your face? No way! Think! Use your head! Contact DavidO at davowl@aol.com (mailto:davowl@aol.com) or Stuart at ssmith@sdc-engineers.com (mailto:ssmith@sdc-engineers.com)in P'cola now, hitch that Donzi to the station wagon, and come on down to George T. Bagby State Park and Lodge for a fun-filled weekend of Donzi-ing with all your Donzi brothers and sisters at Eufaula IV! It will be fun!

Whoever gets this last room, please let us know here.

Some, but not all by any means, "talked about" events that we are considering doing during Eufaula IV are:

Friday, Aug 30:
Arrival at George T. Bagby - early birds head for the ramp and check out that beautiful lake! Don't stay out there too long, because all your Donzi buddies will be showing up in the late afternoon and early evening. Shake hands and hang you head into someone's engine compartment. Gawk, but don't drool. Also, there is a restaurant at the lodge. Eat supper there or fend for yourself. If you are on a liquid diet, be sure to stock-up well prior to arrival, as stores specializing in your favorite libation may be dry in the immediate area.

Saturday, Aug 31:
Breakfast meeting to plan the day activities at the Lodge Restaurant. Head to the ramp!

On the water activities are open at this time, but we are think about locking through south to the Chatahoochee River on one of the days. A great on-the-water meeting place is the nearby "Island Beach".

Later, Tomahawk has booked us dinner reservations at Tom's Live Bait and Sushi Shoppe. Now, we're talkin' some good local fun!

Sunday, Sept 1:
Breakfast meeting to plan the day activities at the Lodge Restaurant. Head to the ramp!

On the water activities are open at this time, but we could go north towards Lakepoint or even further the Chatoohochee North. Speed runs? Island Beach? Fishing? Clogging? We'll do what everyone wants to do!

Cookout at the lodge in the late afternoon.

Monday, Sept 2:
Breakfast at the Lodge Restaurant.

Morning run and closing ceremonies.

Let's not forget the slalom races we talked about a few months back. Hope I didn't waste my time yesterday on the Eufaula slalom course. Found a trick prop just for this purpose. Be ready. :D

Did we miss anyone?

Trying to get a ball park idea how many folks will be attending Eufaula IV so that we can plan the cookout, etc. Of course there will be some more or some less, but would it be safe to say that on average, there will be two persons per each entree on the above list? So far, say 30 to 36 attendees?

Also, for those who still want to attend but don't have a room at The Lodge, be sure to check the reservations hotline daily for cancellations. Especially remember to check on Tuesday August 27th since that is exactly three days prior to arrival on August 30th. All cancellations have to be in by the 27th in order to receive the full refund.

Is the executive suite ($125/day) still available?

Um, me.

I've leapt half the hurdles necessary for the trip and am beginning to think that I might actually get a last Donzi fix before this year is over!

You do realize that the (head bowed reverently) college ball season starts that weekend? Are there provisions for the inevitable scuffles that will arise as we jockey for the radios?

What time should we be off the water Sunday? I'll have to head home that night.

What sort of provisions should we plan to pack? Doubt I possess the heartless culinary skill to whip up something like Dolphin Dip, but hate to go anywhere south of the Mason Dixon without a covered dish... it's kind of like wearing pearls after Labor Day. (Speaking of, how fancy is the Bait Shop and any other Bagby events? Jeans or Jewels?)

Can we make the photographers sign a blood oath that no pictures may be posted without the express permission of their hapless victim? It's either that or I wear my mou mou and dark glasses, both of which will ruin your drag coefficients.

And no one, repeat no one, is to let Bill Bateman within ten feet of a razor and a tatoo... you are to somehow keep abreast of the Bad Tat at all times and make sure that both of his hands are busy are on his throttle.

And I'll be happy to play with anyone's nuts that are loose... I know Mark needs his adjusted... I've gained, ahem, a few pounds, but if I can fit under your bow without disturbing my big hair, I'll be happy to try my hand... well, you know.

Feeling a little like Mary and Joseph... no room at the Inn! Seems that even the Presidential Suite has been snatched... but they don't take dogs anyway, so the search continues.

Shorthanded on the farm today and pulling my hair out... may end up with an aerody hairstyle myself soon!

Thanks for all the responses, but my real difficulty is finding a hotel that will take my geriatric dog, not in finding a room... I'll know in a few hours if my ace up my sleeve dog sitter can take care of her and will let you guys know ASAP if I need your room or help. Hope Liz's foot is feeling better... I sprained both my ankles last month and it isn't the pain so much as it is the frustration of being immobile!

Add Dean Gillespie to the list. He and Ann are coming down Saturday with his primo '67 Sweet 16 powered by a 351 Ford. They made it for one day at the first event, but haven't been back since. (They are with me in the picture below.)

Emmo - what did you say to Dean and Ann to keep them away for three years? Looking forward to meeting someone else from Alabama.
Forrest - let me know how we can help with the cookout. No $20 hamburgers at this event. wink
See y'all on Friday!

I am very disappointed that DONZI people won’t make it again this year. I feel really bad about this and want everyone to e-mail Donzi VP about this, Eufaula is the second oldest Donzi get together with some of the longest standing Donzi Registry members and the longest and continuous Donzi owners ever. I feel we should get a little more support. At the original Universal Studio event about 20% were the Eufaula gang showing their support with their rare, unique and special boats ever. My family will be bringing two, maybe three to this event. Yes Lil Grizzly will be going. DONZI people we love you all so give us a day or two. Besides you mite have some fun
