Making arrangements as we speak for the biggest and baddest boat show on earth!

Hotels, flights, and Hurtz cars can be tight so make your reservations early.

Who's coming?

I am there for sure! Staying at the Roney Palace on Collins Ave. Hotels around the show like double their rates during the show. Holiday Inn on Collins is $209, for example. But, if you are willing to stay 30 minutes away, hotels are usually at their normal, in season, rates.
This show is like a gathering of the who's who in boating and the marine industry and a good time. Get out of the snow and come on down!

Poodle, since you're the local Miamah guru, what are your suggestions as to when to come, and do we bring boats. My experience with big shows is that you can't see everything worthwhile in the show, much less splash boats and cruise in only a couple of days. Your thoughts?

Fishboy and I could be talked into it. I'm about 5 hours away. If we get enough boats together that could be alot of fun. The show is HUGE! I've worked it alot of years and it is definatly a 2 day see all. The crowds are much lighter on the weekdays. First day and last are the least crowded. Don't forget about Joes's Stone Crab. Yumm!

Let's see, it's probably something that they built right there where you are employed that will compete with the Donzi ZR in F2.

Scott,

Might I suggest a run up to Mike Gordon's... and do a downtown Miami / Miami Beach run this year? Lots of places to stop, much nicer views that 'Bama Jacks... and I won't have to fly!

At least a cocktail and/or dinner meet one night at Gordon's... just the pix on the wall are worth the trip... let alone the stone crabs... and now featuring a great sushi bar.

The following boat runs are possible during the SEADOGS / Miami shindig....

MIAMI / BEACH run includes: Downtown Miami, the Port of Miami, Bayside, numerous watering holes, a hi-speed (legal) run down millionaire's row on Miami Beach, and a stop at Mike Gordon's (most Offshore memorbilia ANWHERE, ask Brownie!)

BISCAYNE run includes: Alabama Jacks, Sand's Key sandbar, Angelfish Creek (crystal clear water) Boca Chita lighthouse, and a possible trip thru the Grove (numerous bars) mabey a private airshow WX permitting!

Ya'll get together and decide... arrangements will be made accordingly!

Dalelama
01-20-2003, 10:54 PM
Scott,

N Run goes up Fisherman's Channel (no restrictions!)... cross the Cut there at Fisher Island ferry X-ing... drop in at Monty's if possible... then it's Hi-speed (LEGAL!!) all the way up past the monument island, under Venitian Cswy... on up past Mt Sinai Hosp. and along Millionaire's Row.... then head back across at 79st Cswy to Mike Gordons.. then south... stop at the spoil isles, continue back downtown... to Jimbos / Grove / Bayside ect.
More sightseeing...... better if the Bay is rough..
MIKE GORDONS.... isn't anyone interested in this shrine of offshore boating history? Not to mention the stone crabs at 1/2 Joe's prices!

Scott, I plan on leaving Orlando Friday AM planning on arriving by 1:00 PM. The idea is to drop/store the boat, check in at the motel (Hampton Inn), then go to the show. I'd like to hook up with whoever's made it by then. At the moment, I don't know who'll be in town for the show. Maybe a show of hands would help. I need to know where to drop the boat, so I can head there first.

I see there's talk among you locals as to the best run Sunday; I'm up for whatever you guys decide. Stiltsville might be interesting; haven't seen those places since I was a whippersnapper back in the 50s. I suspect there are a lot fewer of them now. North is fine too, as long as we don't encounter extended no-fly zones.

I'm really looking forward to a great Donzi get-together. I'm glad they decided to hold the boat show for us while we're in town.

Scott, I've been planning on bringing my boat down. For a change, I've got my brother as crew, so I don't have to lean on you guys to help with launch and retrieval. Because it's a 22C, there'll be space for three more. But, if it's just you in your fishboat, and me in the 22, I might think twice about it. Ahh, maybe not; the bay is beautiful, the weather should be good, but, since I know the Bay can be treacherous, I was planning on following you guys who have local knowledge. I love your Whitewater, but I'd probably find myself wanting to "stretch my legs" on occasion if I was following. I think a big show of hands here would make this a much easier decision. As in:

How many Donzi-netters are showing up?
Who's bringing / thinking about bringing a boat for a Sunday run?
Who, how many are desiring a Sunday run as opposed to seeing more of the show? Meee!! :D
As much as anything, I'm happy to accept our Host's advice on the matter.
Chime in Scott!

Even though we'll be leaving Friday, we won't be getting into town until Saturday afternoon after we visit Ginny's pop in Ft. Lauderdale, so for that reason, I don't think that we'll get any time to go to show until Sunday or Monday . . . and definitely Monday if we all end up doing the Alabama Jacks thing or something of the like. We're going to leave the Donzi at home this time and bum rides on Sunday and then head on down to the Lower Matacombe early in the week an stay there until Friday. It's hard to predict how the wind and seas will be on Biscayne Bay this time of year, but I will predict that it will be too rough off of Islamorada for my X-18 at this time of year.
