View Full Version : Houghton Lake/Lake St. Clair plans...

Well, with the four day weekend, we're going up to Houghton Lake over Labor Day. Holiday on the Lake was booked so we're staying at the new Best Western on the south side of the lake. Kind of pricey, but what the heck...you can't take it with you!
If I'm real lucky I'll get up there the following weekend also, for a day trip, if you guys are going to be there.

Anything firmed up for Lake St. Clair at the end of September? That thread kind of fizzled, but I thought that Scott Boldt was interested, as well as several others. I, also, would like to make it over for that, so post it here what is going on, when, and where for the end of September.

Tony, your the first to get back to me on the St. Clair gathering. I was thinking about 9-22, if this works for you then let's put it on the calender.

Ok ! here's the deal, we will meet in Algonac at the DNR launch site on 9-22 around 9:30-10:00. From I-94 take exit 243 Algonac/New Baltmore exit east 18 miles. The site will be on your right. If you hit the St.Clair river you went to far. If you would like a map just e-mail me.

Hey Tony, sorry I haven't been in touch, I had to spend a week out in Anaheim for our national vendors presentation for work. So your coming to HL over Labor Day? Give me your details for your trip, I'll try to make it down one day to hang out with you.

So is Houghton Lake Sept. 8 & 9 off? I would like to make it on 9/9/01 if I can find a place to park my boat on it's trailer for two weeks. Can't keep it in Madison Hts. that long. They will tow it away.

Guys...do not call Houghton Lake on Sept. 8/9 off...I just can't make it. So since I couldn't get any camping reservations anywhere we booked a room at the Best Western for Sat/Sun of labor Day weekend. Riley, we'll mostly be boating on Saturday I imagine, my family and another who has an 18' Chris Craft. I'm a little leery, I hear that it is a shallow lake and that it has a bad "Eurasian watermilfoil" problem. Otherwise known as an invasive aquatic plant...otherwise known as $#@*ING WEEDS! So we will report back to you guys on that condition upon our return.

Again, do not cancel your Sept. 8/9 plans on my account. But maybe Higgins or Second Lake should be considered if Houghton has a weed problem. Anybody been on it this year, and can report firsthand?

Tony, I was out on Houghton Lake a couple of weeks ago. There are spots on the lake that have a weed problem, but they are easily avoided. We were running 80 mph+ in an Eliminator Cat with no problems!

If you have any questions regarding where on the lake to avoid, call Jim Haverstick at Houghton Lake Marine and tell him I suggested you call. Jim owns a shop on the north end of the lake, and would be happy to tell you which spots to avoid.

The main reason I thought H.L. would be good in the first place (besides central location)is how cool a resort the Holiday is. Tony, I'm checking my schedule and will try to make it down to see you on Saturday....Chris

Tony,

Count me in for the 22nd. -- I keep my boat (1998 22 Classic) on the Detroit River, so give me a heads-up where to meet-up when this gets a little closer.

Thanks,

Jim

Voodoo, I'll be looking around 9ish. thinkin if i don't have a hard friday night out  I'll get an exact time the week of.

Whoever is "dropping" in on the east side, Metro, DNR, etc..Be VERY CAREFUL coming across the lake! The water in some spots is only 1-2 feet with a huge sand bar on the north side of the lake by anchor bay. Be sure to follow the buoys into the Middle Channel. Iv'e yet to go into the North Channel from Metro.

I'll be out and about most likely this Saturday (1st) in the area, hanging over @ Browns for lunch and cocktails. If your around stop in!

Freeplay, I'll look for this weekend, I'll be at the Algonac Harbor Club. Look for a red sixteen 2 plus three seeting. If you want pull into the Harbor Club and tie up on the wall opposite the resturant ( no charge) walk to the where you see the big gray building I am in #106. It's a 38 Cruisers with a navy top.

I'm warning you guys, from experience, Houghton Lake SUCKS! There are many spots where weeds are one foot below the surface, and simply skimming over them was enough to block my pickup. My post on the main forum tells the rest of the story. My friend went to Higgins Lake, 5 miles north of Houghton, and said it was beautiful. Clean and DEEP. I only wish I was able to go with him!!!

P.S. Unless a miracle happens, I guess I am out for Algonac on Sept. 22nd.

Chris, I will be launching from the DNR ramp in Algonac. I think there are a couple of guy's who are going to put in at Metro Beach. I would think that we should be able to meet up around 10:00ish. Depending on the winds I was thinking that we could make a run up the St.Clair River a way's. Or we could play around the North,Middle and or South channel's with a lunch stop at Browns. Anyone can feel free to call me at the office. (248-335-4440 ext 25 )

Folks, I'll most likely launch at the Clinton River and head over. I've made it to the North Channel from there, but it's a bit tricky. I'll look to meet you guys at the ramp in Algonac. If I miss you there, I'll check Browns and Deckers. I hope it's a nice day and we get a good turnout! Can't wait to see you all again. Does someone want to compile a phone list of attendees? May help if someone gets detached or a late start and needs to know where everyone is.

I'm shooting for around 9-10ish being in the water. I should be in Algonac no later then 11.

Should we set up a secondary point for meeting?

I'll vote Browns for #2 meeting point from noon till 1 if it's good with you guys.

here's my contact info if needed. Chris

You guys have the right attitude!!

You are doing exactly what needs to be done to build a gathering of friends and family in the Donzi cause! How I would love to be there with ya.

You know how businesses are though... if, no WHEN, you guys get around 15 boats, then I will be there in full Donzi glory with factory support!! Keep me posted as to how the event goes and next year you can count a few items for those who make it!

Best of luck,
