Scot, what are your thoughts on this Whaler?

My buddy has a jet boat made by Four Winns and the engine has ALWAYS given him problems...this boat has the same Mercury 115 Jet as his did/does.

He has been fighting with the mechanic over it for THREE YEARS...has not had it on the water since rebuild.

Would it be a "good" investment?
What do these little jets usually go for $$ ? Also, what kind of speed are we talking? 40-45 MPH? Can anything be done to soup-up the engine, and make more power to get that HEAVY Whaler to run faster?

Also, would you go for the rebuild, or just the boat as-is?

Curiously,
George

George,

If you want to putter with it, Buy it as is.
If you want to use it. Have it rebuilt. My friend who owns it has a marine mechanic on the payroll.

I honestly thought about adapting a more powerful powerhead to this. Its an OMC powerhead. I bet it would scream.

I have not seen many of these. I think these will go up in value. There is a 1993 for 4700.00
and a 1994 for 5500.00.

At 2500 its a good deal.

It is my buddy's.
He will give a warranty on the rebuild, but I do not know how he culd handle a long dstance claim. It would probably be next to impossible.

I have no idea how fast this boat is.

Here it is.
Its reasoably priced.
You have to ask yourself if you want it.
