There are certain boats that just pull at you. For me its the old tunnels that briefly ruled the inland lakes and protected bays while I was a kid. These things were from outerspace when you place them in their time period. So I was browsing E-bay and this (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1171768396) showed up. Never seen one in this good of shape. There is one in MD for free for the asking I was always already towing another boat. Aside from the DUO and The Magnum Missile are there any other earily tunnels out there?

I remember a a boat from the 60's called a carlson contender---i think it was 14 foot tunnel. they might of made a 16 or 18 too.

Galaxy Boats in Columbia, SC, made a Magnum Missile knock-off but with center steering. Actually, it was a really good running boat. I had one with an inline-six 135HP 15" shaft Merc. It played hell geting up on a plane, but once there, it was gone!!!

Not to slight the Missile, but the DUO MYSTERY 17 has to be the prettiest of the lot.

Everybody referes to the magnum missle-tunnel--didn't they also offer a deep-v outboard called the marauder---also 18 feet?

Falcon, a friend of mine had a Carlson contender with a merc 100 hp. I watched him hit a cruiser wake and the boat did a complete 360  and landed right side up!

I remember the first time I saw a contender--it was a new york city boat show probably 1966 or 1967( i was 6)---their booth made quite an impression and those metal flake gelcoats were cool.

A guy on our lake bought an 18' tunnel with a big-a*# Johnson outboard. We were hot-shot barefooters and of coarse bragged that we could 'foot ANY whip he could put us into! Boy, were we wrong!!! Our speed felt like triple digits, and my buddy skipped like a stone trying to hang on too long. I semi-successfully let go about 2/3 of the way into the whip, but even then I was riding about the back 1/2" of my heel! It was awesome...'oh to be young again.

I had a 1972 Ebco tunnell with a 115 Merc on it. No GPS at that time but I did take it to a few drags. I ran 69 to 71 with a full race prop. I would love to find another one, there is nothing like floating on air at 70 mph.
