Are any of you planning on bidding on that boat? My bid was highest last time around and I made the guy a bonafide offer, and I would really like to get this boat, but I don't want to get into a bidding war with one of my Donzi cousins...aside from that, the $260 high bid on the boat is far from his original reserve...and offered him substantially more, but also no where near the $2800

Any thoughts?

well, it seems our friend from nuwave marine has decided to reject my 1k offer and says he plans to restore the boat himself and resell it i thought 1k was actually pretty generaous considering what he has there...what do you guys think? am i being too cheap?

i'm actually pretty disappointed by this turn of events, especially since the boat is still on ebay...best of luck to ya pal...

this would have been a great project for me, i planned on documenting the entire process on thunderboatalley, but i guess it was not meant to be.

so...my search continues...

Seano, I am going to bid on it. I thought a grand was what it was worth...maybe. I agree, yours was generous. If it doesn't work this time around we can sit back and relax knowing he has to spend another 20K so he can sell it for 12K... :D

I am going to bid on it. The windshield is missing. I have contacted him. Lots of stuff is.

this guy had this boat on ebay well over a year ago and was offering it with some motor an an alpha SS... he sold the SS at CONSIDERABLY less than he wanted for an SS last year...

seano
05-23-2003, 04:20 PM
rootsy, when i spoke with him , he said he still had the ss and had planned on putting it on the boat..and "redesigning the entire deck, removing the forward deck locker and incoporating a faring" and then he bought a 36 Cigarette to restore and decided to sell this...

frankly, if he does decide to keep this, redo it and sell it, it's going to be hack job at best and no one will want it...

can you tell i'm bitter :)

Sorry Seano, but I just have to post this 20 cig (http://www.lipship.com/preowned/preowned_fr.html) that Lipship redone and sold for $40,000.00.

Rootsy
05-23-2003, 06:33 PM
Yep, the guy told me he had 2 SS's, cause i called him to see if he'd sell one seperately... boat seemed like it needed A TON of work... especially since someone had done work to it previously...

That 20 for sale at Lipship is definately NICE but those K-planes kind of scare me...Nice looking boat!

Man, that 20 at Lip Ship was incredible.

I wanted to buy it badly and was waiting to sell my 28 Baja. When the Baja finally sold I called Phil and he had sold it a week previously.

I think it went for 30k

Phil had way more than that into it!!!

Does anyone know where it went?

Kurt.

Seano, your better off buying that 22 classic hull on ebay that cig is not worth the money needed to restore,i known a guy who has a clean 78 CIG small block chevy needs the deck restored , but not a bad boat. Jeff

I'm not interested in purchasing that boat, but I did speak by phone with the owner. He was willing to throw in several other items with the boat (the other items he had on ebay) for the $2800 reserve price. Still think you're better off finding a distressed seller who has a boat requiring less effort than that one though.

Everybody keeps refering to a 20' cig in CT. What's the deal with it? How much? What condition? Thanks eek!

Flatracer,they're for air vents.
The cutouts on his look a lot less rectangular than the vents on your boat. Different style vents?

Ken,
I dont see a listing for a 21ft in the blue book, that boat looks bigger than a 21 footer, they need to get the tape out and remeasure I bet its a 24. Nice looking boat.

Other Scott..
I wish I didnt have the vents...water comes in when waves hit the sides eek! still smoke on occasion :D

BUIZILLA,
Dont know for sure, but the new style 20 cigs (http://www.vidalsmonami.com/ywa/cigarette.htm) are right-hand drive.

Lets keep it rollin....

Smoothie, note that this boat for sale has the small vents, AND, the engine compartment is different...??? Nasty Habits '75 has no storage compartments on either side of the engine bay. This one does....???

Lenny, heres a pic of nasty's 1974 engine compartment (http://www.donzi.net/photos/mhanna10.jpg) ,you can just see the storage areas. And the other "1975" is I bet an early one like mattyboys.

Seano, dont worry bud,you havent seen the last of that one on e-bay.. :D

mattyboy
05-27-2003, 09:59 AM
the 72/73 we have has the baitwells plus a locker that runs port to straboard in front of windshield. teak was factory installed and will be replaced with maghony. as far as room in the bilge a sbc with the old chris craft risers and my fat ass fit just fine, should be even easier with the SM risers on it,Poodle remember it's summer time now so you have to take off all those damn sweaters when you're working on the boat wink :D

Well there you have it,the "1975" must of had a run in with a sawzall eek!

oldLenny
05-27-2003, 11:06 AM
interesting reading, all this stuff. Seems like Cig has a "few" design approaches in the same time frame...I don't think that is a sawzall mod. It looks clean in the pic...intersting, if I ever find the yellow 20' I saw in Vancouver 15 years ago again, I will know what I am looking at and its' authenticity. Thanks for the "easy" learning.

seano
05-27-2003, 12:09 PM
the only way the 20 ever came was exactly like the boat on ebay...they always had the "baitwells" and the locker which is forward of the windscreen. the forward locker was eliminated in the 90's when they eliminated the windscreen.

any other 20' "cigarette" that is different is either a copy like the one in LOTO(note the difference in the deck where the winscreen is attached...or the boat has been the victim of the sawzall...

Check out the current high bidder on the Cigarette boat. Feedback "0" and he just registered on May 26, 2003. Sure looks like a "run up" bidder to me! eek!

05-30-2003, 12:07 PM
What is a Sutphen? Is it a real Cigarette or a copy? I had emailed him and he is unsure about the length. Did they make a 18'? Sean if you are interested that twin engine 24' Superboat (copy?) is down to about $10K.

mattyboy
05-30-2003, 07:26 PM
Duc ,
that's the name sutphen, named after the builder, i think they were from jersey at one time, big boats on my lake in the 70's and early 80's most were jet drives not a cig, think they still race today too
