That's a little bit rough for a flat bottom isn't it? Nice shot!

The rough water just evens out the playing field.
The boys with the big motors can't run and hide from me in the snotty stuff!

Hey Flat Racer,
I think I mentioned this a long time ago on the site, but if you're into these boats (flat bottoms like the one pictured) and you want to see something cool, go out to a "Reel Collections" or any video shop and pick up a copy of the old (late 60's) Elvis movie "Clambake." It has an entire race (like at least 10 minutes of movie footage) with Flat bottom racers. Footage is awesome! Parts are silly like the closeups of Elvis and his rival in the movie "Bill Bixby" racing along with fake backgrounds and "wrong engine noises" (kind of like the Dukes of Hazzard "tire on blacktop" squealing sounds while they're on dirt roads); BUT beyond that, much of the footage is very cool. Its in my "classic video collection" because of the boats (no offense to Elvis).

I agree....Clambake is the movie for that type of boat! It's in my collection - right next to the video of the Failed ABC Pilot "ThunderBoat Row" starring Chad Everett as a very Don Aronow esq. character (1990?).

There's also a pretty cool Bertram in Clambake during the waterski scene....

Ah, yes. I remember the movie well, but can you identify the boat Elvis was driving? I'll check back in a couple days to see who knows the answer.

1. What was the name of the boat?
2. What make was it?
3. Who drove it? (not Elvis, the real driver)
4. What category of racing are we talking about?
5. What boat racing venue is depicted in the movie?

I know the answers, but let's see who else does.

Lastly, I have a movie question:
I remember, as a kid, seeing a movie on TV that had as part of the plot, a long distance race up the Miami river with all kinds of different boats, inboards, outboards, Switzer Wings, everything. It had to have been made in the '60s, but I can't for the life of me remember anything else about the movie. Can anyone out there in Donzi-land help?

One last movie trivia question:
Which movie featured a hellacious boat chase through the canals of Amsterdam?

Eric :D wink :p :)

PS if anyone cares to, check out my website at www.geocities.com/Kool_Toyz (http://www.geocities.com/Kool_Toyz)

Ahhh Thunderboat Row....that movie frustrated me for 2 years. It was on ABC in 1989 as a Pilot for a new series...I checked the TV Guide every Sunday for 2 years looking for it to start (what can I say, I was a freshman in High School, no car = no life!! wink

Anyway, they rebroadcasted it sometime in 1990, so I recorded it. I still have the recording, but it's horrible quality - and at some point I recorded over about the first 10 minutes...It features what appears to be one of the Blue Thunder (Lightning?) US Custom's boats I thought were designed by Aronow...

Here's the IMDB link on it:

You've peaked my curiosity about the other movie...I hope someone know's what it is...
