Hi Allan ,

A short while ago you started a very active thread on 'that other site' by asking if anyone knew who it was that designed a 28' racer for Don that ended up being cut down, shortened, enlarged and God knows what else to become about a dozen different (and all successful) boats.
Someone had already submitted 'Harry Schoell' so I didn't partake ... wink
I'd like to ask a few more questions about that if I may ..
Did the fact that Don got so much mileage out of one design piss off Harry ?
Was the original design (for the 28 footer) ever built as it was supposed to be ?
I have always thought that a particular Magnum 25 that I'm very familiar with is the Mag 27 hull shrunk to 25 but with the 'ridge' added to the hull sides.. am I right ? AND ...
If the original 28 footer was never built is the Mag 25 a miniature facsimilie of that design ?

Also it would be great to know more about your NOVA 24 restoration... Where did you find it and will you keep me..(US here) appraised with it's progress ?..Photos would be great !

It has occurred to me that a lot of the regulars here probably have never seen a picture of the SUPERNOVA 19 ... Is there someway you could post one.? I think they might be surprised to see another truely stunning Vee drive performance boat under 20 feet !

Thanks for the info...these history lessons are the best.

Steve

Harry got paid, and did a great job. The closest that the full size 28' got to production was the 28' Rabco, by by Randy Rabe in St. Pete. He bought the molds from Gen. Mabry Edwards (Memco), after Carl K. had bought them from Don A. and given them to him.

The 25' was a cut-down, then expanded (huh?) 27' Magnum.
Haven't bought the Nova yet. Chris (CDMA) is trying to find me a Magnum Missile.

Very interesting THREAD ALLAN.

In 1966, Harry Schoell designed and built a full-height 28' deep vee raceboat for Aronow. Don took that boat and cut it down vertically, to make the Magnum 27'. He took the 28' drawing, blew it up 1.15 times, and made the 32' Cary/Cigarette. He blew the 32' up 1.5 times and made the 49' Cary (really 48'3"). He stretched the 32' Cary/Cig. to 36', then stretched that to 40'. Performer stretched it to 44'. Aronow took some of the above boats and made the 28' Cigarette, all the Squadrons, and a few others.

Wynne/Walters did the 16', 19', 28' and 35' Donzis. Donzi gave the 35' to Aronow who made it a Magnum. He stretched it to 38', then to 40'. The 40' was expanded 1.33 times, and voila, the 53' Magnum. The 53' was stretched to 63', then to 70'. The 16' was stretched to 18', the 19' stretched to 20' .

Answer to the puzzle. NOBODY

Allan, would an "auction" for that picture ever be interesting...I would be bidding to be sure...Lenny

......... just had a thought Allan ...

If you left Donzi in 1967 can you, per chance, remember building my '66 St Tropez ?

It was a Royal Blue hull with white deck/bottom and bootstripe. It might have come with a 188 Merc originally as it had stickers on the hull indicating such.

I'd be really pleased if you said 'yes' :D :D

Rabco also made several changes to the 28'when rigged for outboards, They added a 1" rocker to the last 10'of the bottom and the transom angle was changed from 13 to 11 degrees.

Hi Brownie, Got a quick question for you. Is it possible that the 27' magnum and the 28' cigarette are the same hull?
I swapped trailers on my magnum and cigarette and they both fit like a glove. And the magnum had a custom fitted trailer.
Just a thought!

Winters are too long.

Neat boat, but the staggered cockpit set up is a little funky.
