-----I have been approached by a friend to purchase a Glastron-Carlson that was used in the filming of the James Bond flick that supposedly took place in Louisiana with all the alligators.I have no idea of the value of one of these G/C boats nor to any extra value that might be added because of the movie involvement, and I want to make a fair offer.HELP!
-----The boat was won by the fellow that still owns it in a contest in 1980.He has put 60hrs on it in all these years and it is supposed to be in excellent condition. Its black and silver and this leads me to believe it is the boat that the black guy drove while chasing Bond. The one with the fake zoomies out of the engine hatch.I dont know yet wether they are still on the boat or not.It has T-tops as well as a removable top,and is an I/O.Are these good boats? How were they usually powered?Once again,HELP!........Befuddled ol Bill!

I dont know much about them except that they were featured in a couple of james bond movies, but i ran across an owners forum about a year ago for them. Which i cant find right now :( But i found this link, which has a discussion board.

MSN Glastron-Carlson board (http://groups.msn.com/GlastronCarlsonPhotoSite/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-us)

Not the one remembered, but maybe you can pick their brains on this one. Tell them youll trade them some of your Donzi knowledge. I think the exchange rate is something like 3-1, in Donzi's favor :D

Good luck, sounds like a very cool boat...

Bill,
I think there are 2 movies that had glastrons in them one would be live and let die that was a 16 or 18 footer with an OB ( the one he jumps over the high way ) and the black boat with the big engine was a tahiti or something not a glastron. And the next movie( can't recall the name) had 23 glastron scimitar with t tops and all the gadgets pretty cool looking boat, as far as value it should add to it but how much is your guess??

Matty
there is only one james bond- sean connery wink

If you click on the Glastron Carlson link shown above, there are 2 boats immediately shown; a white/red boat and an orange boat. The white/red one is newer, the orange looking one is from the 70's. It is a Glastron Carlson "Schimitar."

A black Schimitar, I believe was used in whichever Bond movie it was that had Bond exits the boat (his was the Schimitar) at the last minute in a "pop out" hang glider while the boat falls over a big waterfall.

I think the film was "Moonraker" because "Jaws" (the big guy with the metal teeth) went over the falls in his less fancy plain Glastron (again, I think). It's okay, he didn't get killed.

Pretty sure the film you're talking about was "Live and Let Die." That one had the Everglades chase scenes and some neat, as I recall, Glastron "looking" machines, that appeared to be jet driven.

I am thinking of the one where he was being chased by the black guy and James ends up buzzing him and throwing gasoline in his face, smashing the other guy's throttle as he buzzes by which causes him to get "all blowed up!"

A pretty tricky maneuver by James. But hey that's why he's Bond, James Bond.

Unless it was a film trick, I thought the boat you're talking about was the bad guy's boat and it got destroyed?? The one James was in there was pretty cool too. I think it was a brown, again, Glastron "looking" boat (not sure).

Also had a small red and white Glastron make an awesome overland jump. I think that was a different chase scene.

There are 1 or 2 Schimitars (mentioned above) around western Maryland. They are pretty, if you like metal flake. I think they made them non-metal flake too. Looked ahead of their time and pretty fast (58+-).

Looked at Matty's post. I think he's right. Some of the "Live and let Die" boats, the faster looking ones were something else.

Another Scimitar tid-bit.

I got an article (somewhere) from just a year or so ago that was called something like "THE 20 COOLEST BOATS OF THE LAST... (I don't know, say 50) ...50 YEARS!" The Scimitar was listed there.

At one point the article said something like "some consider this one of the most beautiful fiberglass boats ever built."

They are pretty boats.

Of course, not to worry, the Donzi 16 was in the same list.

The writers admitted, such a list was pretty much impossible to do, and so, was an "in their opinion" kind of list.

-------Have been out of town for a couple and came back to the pics. This boat is a Scimitar and is brand new.The pics show a boat that appears to never have been wet.I dont believe it was ever in any J.B. movie, however! The boat was sold to the present owner by the original owner a week ago for 12 grand. It has the matching Glastron trailer and everything.Even has a power drivers seat.Im going to hang off for awhile and hopefully will be able to pay him a short profit towards spring..........Bill S

------Almost forgot, will get the pics up shortly!

The outboard he used in "Live and let Die", was a Glastron GT150. They were rated for 90HP and he had an evinrude 115 on it. The black boat was a Glastron/Carlson I think, as well as all the others that chased Bond down on the bayou.

1970s

In 1970, Glastron boat number 100,000 was built.
By the early 1970s, Glastron was world leader in fiberglass boat sales.
The total-package concept, offering boats with private branding of sterndrives with the Glastron name, was introduced in 1971.
Glastron began incorporating vacuum-formed instrument panels and glove box panels, which were met with considerable consumer acceptance due to the integrated styling.
Glastron introduced the first mechanical steering to replace the standard cable and pulley system, which represented a significant innovation in safety.
In 1973, a record 24,863 boats were sold.
Also in 1973, the company built 26 Glastron and Glastron/Carlson boats for the James Bond film “Live and Let Die.” Seventeen boats were destroyed in the 100+ practice jumps to find the optimum speed and ramp design to achieve what became the world record 110' jump. The Glastron GT-150 flying over two police cars became a cover story in Time magazine.
Glastron boats were also featured in the Walt Disney film “Boatniks.”
1980s

In 1980, after designing a custom boat for the James Bond film “Moonraker,” Glastron introduced the Glastron/Carlson Scimitar. The 23-foot model boasted a hard top with removable tinted roof panels, a wraparound safety glass windshield, power seats, a center console and an overhead switch panel. Not surprisingly, it was selected Boat of the Year by Powerboat magazine.
Glastron moved its manufacturing operations to New Braunfels, Texas in 1984.
In 1987, Genmar Industries, the country’s largest independent boat manufacturer, acquired Glastron Boats.
With its international brand name recognition, Glastron became an important member of the Genmar family.
In 1989, the Glastron/Carlson 19CSS was introduced. Three other models followed: the 28CSS, the 33CSS and the 18CSS.

-----Thanks,RT,much appreciated!
-----So what do you think, boys and girls????Its different and it can be yours.I know,it should be in the for sale area, but the thread started as a quest, and still is to some degree,as we need to try to establish a value somehow.
-----Owner still assures me it was used in a James Bond flick, but it was Moonraker which makes more sense as this boat wasnt built when Live and Let Die was filmed. He also says the boat has only 67 hours on it,and the pics look like that could easily be correct. It was apparently always kept inside and clean. What Im thinking is that the boat may have been used in some pre-production planning, but it couldnt have been used much.It was definetly won in a contest by its only titled owner and hasnt had a reg. sticker on it since 1984.
-----Second owner says the trailer is aluminum, even though it is painted and has a small dent in one fender.
-----He paid well over ten for it and I would have to say its worth more than that, but what do you guys think? How about your thoughts,Walt?............Bill S
