Looking at a 1982 Apache 22' sport/race
not a Scout, I read where Ben Kramer Apache started in 1983, is boat legit?

GREAT looking hull and deck, looks like a small version of a 27'Cig Squadron, has small fairing/windshield base molded into deck and typical apcahe hatch.

Supper clean boat BB/Bravo runs mid 70's

Phillip,

Apache uses the Hull ID # starting with APH

I've seen several photos of this boat and it looks to be very clean. I do have a weekend house in Riverhead and can look at it and take some digi photos for you if you'd like.

Lemme know,

Sean

Thanks Sean,
I already bought a plane ticket, I would have looked at your Cig but I don't have 35K, I wanted a 27' boat but can't afford marina storage, I can keep a 22' at home, this appears to be a REAL clean boat

Did they build small Apache's in 82? I thought I read they weren't built till 83?

Thanks, Phil

I'm not sure about the year...I thought it was 83-84 also, but you can tell by looking at the Hull ID #...should be APH

Talked with Bob Saccenti, he said they started building Apache's in 1980 with a AB8 ID then swithched to the APH designation

it turns 4900 RPM @ 65mph with a 25 pitch mirage plus, was hoping to be a little faster but not a bad place to start.

Grining ear to ear :D just back in town and got the Apache in the water for the first time :D didn't push it on the test drive, I did this time and it RUNS  pulls STRONG through the mid range and top end. :D

Definetly need trim tabs for the top end, K planes? what brand tabs are best? Runs 65 @ 4900 start to trim it out and it climbes quickly to 68, starts chine walking, on to 70 then gets too squirely,
Also cavitates the prop any time you pour on the ponies, turning a 25 pitch Mirage plus, have read other posts where the Plus cavitated. should I stick with the same pitch and go to a non Plus Mirage? or try a Turbo prop?
What a rush!!!!

Phillip,

Glad to hear you are enjoying the boat...

K-Planes are the best tabs to buy, and come in two different lengths...I would be guessing, but the short ones will probably do just fine.

As far as propeller selection, not sure where to go there...you'll have to dind out what max rpm should be on that motor...it sounds as if that prop may be too small...at 65mph your turning 4900? On your way to 70 how much do the revs increase?

Have fun!

Sean,
Never drove a 70 mph boat that was chine walking before, just glanced at the speedo, and the trim indicator.
I'm going to try a 4 blade 25 pitch turbo 2+2 prop, Precision Propellers said that the four blades will give me more surface area and the slighlty smaller diamiater would nor drag the revs down.
Also prop cavitated while turning at lower speeds
