Well in all my boating here in Va Beach I never see a Donzi, I pull up to a ramp we never go to but since we are entertaing my wifes friend we go to a place close to the beach, and as I cross the bridge in the Jeep I see a SWEET yellow and white Donzi.... and I mean SWEET, mint condition etc... I pull up by the guy, ask the year and he says it is a 88 ZX????? It had the 2 little windows in the bow on each side. (he says it is a 23ZX)

When did the ZX line start???

He was very young (early 20's) and said he had just bought the boat, cool, what is she running I said? 454 as he smiled.... then the bridge lifted, he gunned it, seconds later, so did I... past him at 60 on GPS (speedo 65), then I hit WOT and saw him 10 minutes later in the next no wake zone...

I am learning on smooth water the speedo is way to generous compared to my Garmin, the speedo is accurate to 55 MPH then it seems the speedo is still climing but GPS is about 4 or 5 MPH less...
Anyway my ZX left him with his girlfriends mouth open..... hmmmmmm.... http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif
So you older Donzi guys tell the history here for my education.
I did give him the address of the Donzi net in hope he too might go to KY.
Thanks. Bryan

It definitely sounds like it was an 88 Z21 (which are actually 22.5 LOA). I just posted a link to a few pics of mine with the new trailer, it sounds like his was identical, except the BBC).

Anyway, your definitely right about blowing us older Z guys away - I think the Stepped hull and newer power make a huge difference in performance!! With my SBC I'm only running a true Mid 50's (58/9 speedo).

Anyway as far as I know - here's the lineage of the Z series:

85/6-88/9 - Pre-OMC Z's (21/25/29/33)
89-90 - OMC Z's (21/25/29/33)
90-93/4? - OMC - Black Widow series (24/33?)
95-97/8 - Non-Stepped ZX's (22/26/28/33?)
98-Present - Current ZX Line. (22/26/28/33/38/45?)

Of course, just like with the classics, Donzi has always made changes mid-year, etc, so that's at least the framework that I've been able to come up with - I'm sure I've got part of it wrong.

I saw your pictures of your Z and new trailer, very nice, that is exactly what the one I saw was. That yellow with a nice shine is awesome, I am a white hull guy, not big on graphics, but that yellow is good loooking.
Thanks Bryan
