I would like to buy a 14-1/2 X 23" prop for the Volvo 270 drive in my 16. I would prefer a SS prop, but would also buy an aluminum one. It can need minor reworking or filling of burn spots, but I would like it to have some major service life left in it. If anyone has one, I will pay a fair price. Thanks for the help!

Would either of you be interested in a bronze 14" x 23" with as much cup as we could get into it? It's the original prop off my Volvo 250. If it will fit the 270, I could always use the display room in my den as that is where the prop is sitting because it is pretty.

Just wanted to let everyone know the Bronze prop that I have has been sold. Thanks for your interest and I'll check to see if this prop is still available new. Not to many lefties being built anymore except special order.

I'm not positive, but I think Michigan Wheel Props still made an LH aluminun prop that would fit 270's. I checked a few years ago. I think the downside was only very low pitch (and only aluminum).

Boldts -- Just for the record, how did the 23" bronze compare to aluminum??

Craig,
I have an aluminum 141/2" x 23" that I used as a spare prop. RPM's ran in the 4600 area which for the SB Ford is a little low. The bronze 14" x 23" ran in the 5000 area. This prop was originally a 21" pitch that was changed to a 23". A little high but man did the engine sing. I then bought a stainless right hand prop because that was all I could get at the time with a 21" pitch. I had my local prop shop change the pitch to 22" and I had to drill and tap a hole for the short Volvo cone and lock bolt. (I tapped the hole with a 5/16" thread and kept it American for ease of use and availability of bolts) The stainless runs at 4800 - 4900 in the full trim hole. (250 Volvo with no power trim) All of these props required a lot of cup to get the slipage out of them. Also, they were run behind a bone stock 302 Ford. No Hypo here. Then I bought a GPS and found out the true speed. :( Really kind of disappointing. I swear the boat feels faster than that! LOL

I have a Spinelli reworked Michigan 14-1/2X21 SS wheel that with my who-knows-how-built 302 turns at about 5500 rpm, and probably gives me about 52-54. I'm not sure, but at the same RPM's, my aluminum 14-3/8X21 with 4 LARGE people, a full tank of gas in smooth water GPS'd at 50 even. After asking people on the board what I was doing wrong, they said to re-pitch to 23, and I should get about 60. The two-owners-ago guy I ran into said that he had a local engine builder rebuild this motor, and he had a pretty hot cam put in, but I'm not sure of the horsepower. I would just like to get my WOT RPMs down to about 5K, and pick up some more SPEED!

I have two custom props LH I for Volvo 280 (should fit the 270. Both are thinned, blueprinted, balanced. I have over a grand into the chopper because I bought it new, sent it to Merc for labbing, then after a couple of years sent to a great shop that got another 2-3 mph out of it.

14 x 24 LH Spinelli 18 classic - 68mph@5400

14 x 26 LH Merc Chopper 18 classic - 63mph@4500

I was going to rehub for a Bravo, but I am thinking of just getting a new Hydromotive for my new setup. If there is significant interest, I'll post these on Ebay for you guys.
