If you think finding parts for a Volvo drive is a pain, old Mercruiser TRS stuff is down right impossible.
I'm in need of a shift motor on the MercTrans transmission for a 1977 Mercruiser 255/280 TRS (http://216.37.204.204/mercruiser_oem/Mercruiser.asp?Type=13&SubType=111&A=61&B=22). I think the Merc part number is 69392A4.
The old shift motor some how got jammed and one of the field coils burned out. This is a bi-directional motor made by Prestolite. I recently sent it to API Marine (http://www.apimarine.com)to be rebuild, but they sent it back stating that they couldn't rebuild it.
Also, someone just told me that there is a conversion kit (p/n: 96392A4) by Mercruiser to eliminate the shift motor for $622.00. Ouch!!!
