I took the low cost approach to quiting down my 302 Ford exhaust in my 1970 18 2+3. I took off the rubber flappers and clamped on 2 1/2 ft to 3 ft long rubber marine rated rubber exhaust hose from a NAPA auto parts store. When at Idle, they hang down into the water and really muffle the noise. The more weight in the boat, the more under the surface they are. When I open her up, the exhaust flows freely and she sounds great. I bought T-bolt type clamps to hold the hose tight. Standard type clamps won't clamp the heavy rubber good enough. Thought I would try this before spending big bucks on silencers. They get lots of comments and questions!

Steve,
Let me know if you find them. I could use a pair as well. If I find them first, I'll let you know.

Sam,

It's a K&N. It was on the boat when I bought it so I cannot tell you for sure if it improved the performance, but when I put one on my Ford F150, it was noticable. The truck felt as is it rolled easier at idle speed and accellerated better.

I will measure the exhaust today.
Thanks for your help,

Sam,

My Minx was repowered with a 350 mag in 1997. Below is a picture of my exhaust. I think that would be called 4". I am very interested in the silencer tips. Please let me know how much they cost and what to do to get them. If you have a phone number for me to call, email me direct at stixmagill@hotmail.com

Thanks for the help!
