Actually, I think both the upper and lower are different for the LH model.

The upper driven gear is in the top of the case and the shift dogs are ramped bassackwards in the lower.

Al,
I thought that the shifting was done in the lower in a Alpha. The upper turns the same way in either a right or left rotation drive.
The forward gear in a left hand drive is the gear closest to the prop, and it's the front gear in a right hand lower.
Did that make sense?

They are rare, but they do exist. I saw one about a year ago on ebay.

Thanks Phil,
Just what I suspected. They don't list a separste part number for the upper, just the lower.

Anyone?
Cuda was kind enough to forward an add from a guy who has a "matched set", but he doesn't want to separate them.

You should be able to find someone that needs a standard and go together on it.

Cliff spoke to my Merc guy he said he had none but would do some asking, he said the thrust was transferred to the back end against the bearing housing not up in the nose besides the case there is quite a bit of changes. Said they were rare puppies and did not take the same abuse of a standard Alpha, asked if you were going to put some HP to it which he said was not a good thing. Low HP they did pretty good. Not sure if he will come up with anything we will see.
