Besides the early 14,and the 16, does anyone know
of any other sport boat type models that Donzi
produced as outboards or bracket-outboard types.
Not interested in fishing style. Thanks, RT.

Best friend of mine bought a factory 22" Classic from Roy Farmer/John Chisham in 1983. Boat was dark brown with light brown trim. 2 years later factory upgraded with twin 220 h.p. yamaha's, on Gill brackets. Factory test driver (can't remember his name) claimed it was the fastest 22' produced at that time, surpassing the 440 Merc. T.R.S. drive in the personal Criterion of Mr. Chisham's. Boat has sent been sold, new owner went back to a single engine.

This is the boat Cig 30 speaks of. I bought it from the original owners nephew. It originally came equipped with twin 200 Yamaha's, and was repowered with a single Johnson 300GT. The yammys were not counter rotating, and although the boat was extremely fast, it had a serious torque twist and on more than one occasion ejected passengers. Of course, now you can get counter rotating OB's. I am going to run it this season with the Johnson, and think about what to do for next year. I think a pair of 250XS Optimax's would look great... and be FAST!!

Hopse... I gotta get some pix of the Princess on this boat. She bought the matching bikini already.

Dave,
Post lots more photos of this jewel. Got any photos of the original dual engine rig? If not check with the prior owners to see if they have some. That would be nice to keep with the boat to confirm its history/Pedigree.

Scot...

I'll post quite a few photos this spring. I ran out of time this fall. Waleye has a couple of pix he took of the boat at speed. I'll get those up as soon as I get them from him. I have also been bugging the nephew for some original pix as well. I would love to get the boats history documented, especially where she is so rare.

Bertram... did you say there was an 18 OB? Hmmmm, I wonder if I could get that thru the finance commitee...

Woodsy,

Has your boat been repainted? The original was dark brown and "honey". Also I do notice the lack of a windshield. The boat was buildt with one, however prior to the first delivery, it was removed by the factory and the holes filled. The original boat was powered by a single Evinrude 235, later sent back to Donzi for the upgrade to twins (220's), and additional glass reinforcing, including the foredeck, originally laid up a little light. I will do my best to get some pictures with the twin setup and send to Scott (Harbourmaster) for insertion, if you guys would like. (sorry not quite up to speed on how to do that yet) One other thing, the original had a bad razer cut in the gel coat, around a lot of the floor area, where carpet was trimmed for installation with a utility knife (Owner was not happy!)

The boat was quite a ride, ran an honest 74-76, felt like 80+ due to ride angle and lightness. In its day, I don't remember it ever getting beat.

Thanks

Looking at the latest pictures, I am fairly sure it appears as though there have been two of these special boats constructed. I am expecting pictures anytime of the twin setup, and will forward.

Cig..

Yes, the boat was originally dark brown and honey. I really think this is the same boat. The only real issue is the windshield. This boat definitely does not have one. I am going to crawl under the deck and double check to see if there are any fill holes. Last time I was under there, I didn't remember seeing any. I may have to import a Donzi expert like CDMA to crawl thru the boat....

Any info you can dig up, pictures, old registrations etc, or perhaps put me in touch with the original owner, that would be GREAT!

Waleye... thanks for posting the pix. I am going to need copies of those.

Boxy & Bertram... You guys are killing me... I didn't just get thrown under the bus... I was tied up and PUSHED! :D :D

"Chicken Mannnnnnnnnnn", Marvis Carmichael, stock room guy at Donzi, had a round bottom 18' in '68 w/ a pair of 110 Merc/quickies. Went like stink. Up until GEOO, it was probably the fastest Donzi. I drove it, but I didn't have the stones to keep it WFO.
