Looking for some knowledge. I have muffled Corsa exhaust tips currently and have been thinking of replacing with some non-silenced straight through tips. I also have and will be keeping for a while the standard Mercruiser big block manifolds and elbows.

If I go with a tip such as an angle cut, are the internal flappers a must? If I go with a straight cut and no internal flappers, are the rubber external Salsbury flappers a must?

Thanks

RedDog,

I have straight cut tips with internal flappers. You definitely need either external or internal flappers. I didn't think much water got in my pipes till I watched the boat at anchor. Any decenct sized wake or wave that hit the transom completely swamped my tailpipes.

I just bought a set of used shotguns and they came attached to a set of 4" 45 degree through transoms. I also have a set of salisbury flaps. If you would like them just make a small donation to the registry and I will ship them to you after Christmas...Ed

I do not think flappers are necessary on a 22 IF you are carefull when backing and when you are in a big sea (boat wakes or waves) and the stern is facing the waves you close the diverters (silent choice).

My mechanic likes the flappers. He said that your boat is at risk of getting water up the exhaust when it is anchored or tied to a pier. I never had them on my 18 and never had a problem, and it was tied to a pier all summer. I did put them on my Scarab though, just because the pipes are only about 2" out of the water.

Corsa exhaust tips are first rate and feature internal flappers with a lifetime guarantee on them... this removes the unsightly external flappers and still affords you plenty of protection from water ingestion due to wakes, waves, etc.

you can call corsa and tell em what you want and they can either hook you up right there or mail you a catalog. the going rate is about $200 / pair. I went with straight cut 4 inch tips with internal flappers on my 16 and had ZERO issues all last summer.

the only REAL downfall to internal flappers is some noise due to the counter weight of the top flapper rattling in the pipe now and again...

the 2nd downfall? i'm now WAY illegal per the michigan noise law... oh well... F'em if they can't take a joke :D eek! :p

Looks like this internal flapper design may avoid the rattle?

I have 2 pairs of tips that "had" internal flappers in them. Is it possible to put new flappers in them instead of replacing them?

I have a set of 7" muffler cans from Corsa, one season on them, stock on my boat from Donzi.
Sitting on a shelf that I could use for other things.
Anyone want them $50 plus shipping.

My new Corsa cans were over $300, I plan to keep them, no noise issues in the bay.

I recommend internal and externals. I posted here and value the data gained, no worries.

my boat has a 3" exhaust that also "had" the internal flappers but they were gone. CP performance was the only place I could find that had internal flappers for a 3" system. They do rattle a little bit though.

Bryan,

Do you have 1 pair or 2 pair? I am interested.

1 pair, special price for you.... 4" hole needed...
Money is not a must for a special Donzi home.
I always need hats (why I was so happy to get one) :) plus shipping would be an even deal for me. HELL send me a couple leftover somethings and I will mail them. Just winter cleaning the garage.
They are in GREAT shape, trust me, I did re use the original SS 1/2 nuts and washers for mounting my new ones..
Let me know Scott.
I will send soonest if you want them.
Bryan

PS, thanks for what you do for us Scott.

I have CMI tips with internal rubber flapper no noise and are replaceable if needed with a screw deiver, without taking off the tips. they are actually almost easier to remove than the external kind.
