My '67 has what is labeled an Eaton, but is basically a Volvo 200. Prior to the changeover the true Eatons had some kind of swivel deal for trailering...very unusual. Don't know much about parts for older Eatons, except that I use the Volvo parts catalogs for mine and they cross over nicely.

In the early mid 60's eaton, volvo and chrisler were the same. Our 16 with a 200 drive has a 250shaft and gears in it . I changed them when my sister hit a telephone pole off point pleasant beach. The boat has worn out three engines in it, drive is still good, cone clutches and all

I will get more particulars on this boat. The boat is for sale by the person who inherited it. It has a 79 302??, Eaton drive , no drivers seat. Apparently there are motor problems. 3500. Been looked at by two people and they didnt want it because of the drive.

What year is the boat, it looks exactly like the 67 I just looked at, same colours, the one I looked at had a Volvo 270T drive. Are they asking 3500, is that with the trailer? Gives me a much better idea as to what to offer the owner of the one I looked at.

It is an Eaton drive, not a Volvo. The early sales brochures show this drive on the 18 2+3.

Danny,
Where was this boat located

BigGrizzly

thats not a 67 thats a 1965 with the cable shift on top of the drive. I belive that is a old 180 drive or earlier in the picture.

The boat is being represented as a 67. Ok, now to the big question.......can this puppy be fitted with a later drive. Since its left hand drive it would have to be some kinda volvo. Would this be very expensive.

Raritan-GRAB that puppy!!Scot V(Harbormaster)has two Volvo 270's and an Alpha drive for sale-all for $1500 bucks! You can find used Volvo 270/280/290 drives on Ebaay and boattraderonline.com for anywhere $400.00 to $1500.00.Engines are all over the place.
I don't recall seeing a hull that has strakes all the way back-but isn't a barrelback(like this hull). What year is it?

I'd say it is a 65 and an Eaton drive. I had one and coverting it to a Volvo is no big deal.

Donzi only made 18's in barrel back. Not 16's

The boat I've been looking at is about 30 miles from my home in Midland ON which is about 70 miles north of Toronto. I haven't seen a registration yet but the foil ID plate is actually legible. I am basing the year on the hull #c16-400 and comparing it to the registry. The plate also says the original drive was the Volvo 270T, any thoughts on when Volvo introduced that unit?

Raritan,
Being from fort worth, here is how I understand the "y'all" lingo:
-"y'all" can mean you or yous
-"y'alls" definitely means yous
-"all y'alls" means all of yous
Just yanking your chain, but it's definitely great to see an Arky checking out a Donzi. Buy it. Get it in running order by may 12 and we will meet somewhere off of I-30 or 40 to caravan to the Awakening of the Horses get together at Cumberland. Good luck, Todd Somerville

Raritan,
That is definitely an Eaton drive. Parts are impossible to find....and besides, Eatons were real junk, but if this drive works.... use it. Eaton switched to Volvo drives around 1966. Switching to a volvo drive would probably be the cheapest and easiest.

thanks for the interest. The individual who has the boat wants 3500 but will take 3000. The engine, a 302 is all apart. Non orig drivers seat. Lots of messed up fiberglass around engine hatch. Seems to me that by the time I get it up and runnin I will have in excess of 5000 in it if I have to replace drive. I keep looking for a yellow one with a black stripe to appear in the mailbox fro NY but it hasnt arrived yet

Paul,
Since I am in Arkansas, look for a truckload of turnips to arrive early on January 10th. The truck will say Monica on the side and will have four racoon tails hangin from the antenni.

Seems to me I've seen this boat before too.
Now, only the 16 Donzi guys can answer this one.
Did all 16's come with the rounded transom? I thought the cutoff year was 69/70?
Or was this for 18's only?
No motor, and an old drive hanging off the back? In my mind, I am ripping out everything, converting to RH steering and installing a Merc package.
Notice the engine is running in that picture. What happened?
