I sent this to a few guys last year. This is an old article, 1986, before 400's were popular. Has a lot of useful info though. I used this as a blue print to build one in the late 80's, still have it in my 67 Camaro (soon to be Donzi motor).

I've considered a 400 for the Donzi, however I ended up w/a 388 due to the short supply of 400 blocks. Do you have a source for the 400 blocks?

BTW Good article!

Lunati used to have some really good 400 packages and also sold 400 blocks. I'm not sure if they still have 400 blocks available though. http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Lunati.html

I made a good buy 15 years ago and bought a brand new GM left-over 400 short block for $400. Loper's Performance in Phoenix had them stacked 5 high in their shop, mid 80's. I should have bought 10 of them back then.

Can you guys read this? I'm waiting for photopoint to post the gallery where the pages are bigger. I'll post the link when it's up.

Yeah Rick,
I got it and I was just reading it last night.
Interesting read. Thanks a lot!
I don't want a screamer 400. Just something that will get over 300 HP reliably. It's going to be the winter project. Though at this time, I am negotiating a job in Wichita, Kansas, of all places. The money is right (really right), and they are promising per diem. So I may not be around much to build a motor.
And no...I will not be lending out the Donzi to Florida vacationers! http://www.donzi.net/ubb/tongue.gif
Gonna lock that baby up tight in a nitrogen atmosphere.
So maybe a mild performace build up would be in order for the 400.
Nate, are you looking for a 400 block? I know where there is one, and money talks. One problem though, it's only the block. 4 bolt too, and I think the balancer is there.

If my 388 breaks soon, I'll contact you for the 400. (I pray this one stays together though for a while)

Kansas.....Burrrrr!!!

How about some 6.125" rods?

Ha!
Can you imagine JimmyC and me together for more than a couple of days?
Kansas! Yeah, I second that emotion! Brrrrr!
Went for an interview at JDS Uniphase. Fiber optic telecommunications people. Lasers and the like. Had a great conversation, but when I asked when my second interview was, I got the boot. Or told very politely that the would "call me"! Yeah right!
Calling TAD today to see if there are even considering me seriously.
Need work!
BTW, I was over at Boathouse Discount Marine the other day and saw a V-8 bare block, painted blue. At first I thought it was a Ford, being blue and all, then notice that NO! It wasn't! It was a Chevy 400! Later model 2 bolt mains. I wonder if Crusader ever made a 400? It seemed to be Crusader Blue.
