Upon close inspection mine is wearing.
2001 502 MAG, 119.8 hours this season.
The www.mercruiserparts.com (http://www.mercruiserparts.com) site 1999 0L up says one thing.
Merc computer software says 863-8766.
Called BAM, they have the latest update of software and the new number is also 863-8766.
The belt itself says 57-861049-1DF which matches the 98 Gen VI's.
Our motor is an 0M series which only goes to 900.
Mine is 868 which means I am one of the very last I guess (a good thing).

Just sharing the info as I learn it, research it and wear out the debit card!

Did you catch the post a few weeks back about the serpentine power steering plastic pulleys that break. Might be worth a look see!

Bryan,

I posted the question a few weeks ago regarding the Serpentine Belt / Power Steering Pulley. Since then, I have learned that MerCruiser issued a Service Bulletin back in January 2000 regarding this situation -- failure of the pulley.

This may explain the confusion on the replacement serpentine belt information -- I don't believe that Mercury will provide the old belt -- however if you have a plastic 4 3/4 power steering pulley, I would suggest you replace it before it fails.

You can see the actual service bulletin at the following web address: http://www.sterndrives.com/bulletins/mc/00/EN_003.pdf

Good Luck,

Jim

Thanks for the info, mine is not plastic, I am a 0M serial number. I haven't seen anything on the OM's as of yet, that is why the parts are so confusing.
Thanks again though.

Poodle you da man! :)

I figured out the 12" U bolt situation I was looking for, used a 6", double female, threaded rod etc... hack saw, done.
Fits GREAT!
Great talking to ya, thanks.
