Have any of you Arneson guy's looked into this option for the Transmission yet? I saw this show up on Offshoreonly and it made me think about Chris and Nate's projects.....anyone know what it costs?

Hey, George Desmond's boat is all over the Arneson website!!

Eric,
If you're talking about the stand off box, they're roughly $1500.00. I'll be using one in the GT to keep the CG aft. It also and also negates the need to shorten or move the gas tank forward, move your engine forward and so on. Arneson custom makes each box to the customers specs.

By the way, all of my stringer gussets and one bulk head are cut from Thermo Lite Board. Need to cut two more bulkheads and the double thick transom layer then start epoxy glassing everything in.

Just curious, what does a new ASD6 Arneson Surface Drive run for?

Jamesbon,
Does this “stand off box” give you the reverse/neutral/forward capability that Geoo does not have?

Thanks,
Craig

OK - so how much for a Drive, Tranny, Stand-off box, & misc. installation hardware? It seems to me that if you could get a good deal on the drive (like it sounds like you guys did...), it may be easier and or cheaper to do an arneson conversion than a bravo conversion? I guess the other question is - like with the blackhawk, does you hull need to be modified in order to take full advantage of the surface drive?

I don't really know why I keep asking these questions, since I know I won't ever do the conversion - I never hang on to a boat long enough to justify the investment - but this is just fascinating!!

Nate

My conversion plate mounting does't look to bad after all! It does need touch up paint.

How much longer is a big block than the small?

I have 2-3" of clearance to the tank cross member running three pulleys off the crank.
Maybe you could make the Alum. mounting plate and add a 1" spacer combine pulleys/belts, etc.

Duh, like usual I should have read further on the Arneson site to find out that the stand off box is basically an extension box. Alrighty then, what does a new Velvet trans go for?

Thanks,
Craig

I THINK a new ASD 6 is around 8K. I just saw a used pair with trim and steering rams for 4K (I think) That's a good deal in my opinion.

Eric,
My thinking exactly. I tossed around the idea of a Bravo, but after doing the math, the ASD was not only less expensive but more appealing to my taste.

My hull has a slight rocker built into it from the stern to about 3-4 feet forward. I think this should work very well. I believe you just want to stay away from having any hook in the bottom.

Mark,
Glad to hear the plates in good shape. I estimated the BBC to be about 3"-5" longer than the SBC. My pulleys would have been up against the fuel tank bulk head.....no good. I'm gonna go with the extension box, it's proven and I already have my hands way too full with this project. What prop are you running? Mine looks identical except it rotates to the left.

Here's what I have into the hardware so far. (and there's more "nickel & diming" to come)

ASD6 &
trim & steering rams &
Velvet Drive 72C trans $2300
extension box $1500
pwr steering pump $150
helm $150
trim pump $150
trans cooler $150
misc. hoses $ BS $300
Smoking someones a*s $priceless

The extension box also eliminates the need to re-build the transom. However, I'm past the point of no return there.....she's stripped and ready for a new one.
